I'm looking for a 20 ga shotgun to buy as a toy and for my girlfriend to shoot when she wants to duck and dove hunt. What's a few reliable options to look at, not wanting to spend a ton of money on it.

With this in mind, I would look hard at an O/U. The Yildiz line sold at Academy has high marks. It's simpler to operate for someone who doesn't shoot often, swings and handles really well, and the entry level model can be had for around $450. I got my wife one in March and she really likes it.

The autoloader options at a similar price point are just not that reliable. Another option might be a pump like a benelli nova in a 20ga.

The Franchi Affinity (currently on sale for $650 @ Cabela's) is probably the least expensive 20ga autoloader I would recommend.

The Stoeger 3020 is just a 20ga version of the Stoeger 3000, but for some reason has had more issues than it's 12ga brethren so I would stay away from it for the time being.

The Winchester SX3 ($800) and the Benelli Montefeltro ($900) are probably a notch above the Franchi and both come in sub-$1k. Just not sure what your budget is.

In the event she's not your girlfriend in the future, you still have a good 20ga auto in your collection that's not a POS.

I picked up a Stoeger 3020 20 gauge auto back for around $450.00 in the fall and love it.

Another vote for Franchi. I bought my boys one back in the spring. Shopped a good bit for a decent 20 gauge under $1k and settled on the Affinity at Bass Pro for $719. It has Benelli stamped on the receiver and felt more balanced and substantial than the comparable Stoeger.

bought my son a Franchi Affinity compact 2 Christmas' ago and it has been great.

It was not $650 though. Good bit higher.

I would highly recommend the Franchi.

The Franchi Affinity Compact is on sale for $700 (normally $750). Cabela's has the regular one in black on sale right now for $650 and the blued/walnut for $700:

ETA..Yildiz O/U.
Great shooting shotgun with little kick if you shooting low brass for dove or teal.

I've had one since 2005 and still love it for dove and even ducks. I have killed geese with it shooting 3" but it does have a little kick with those.

My oldest shoots a Franchi Affinity youth model 20 gauge - I would highly recommend it - he is a great shot with it.

It feels like a full size beretta or benelli.....does not feel cheap....when my youngest outgrows it, I plan to use it as my cruising around shooting shite shotgun.

Another vote for Franchi affinity. I got one last year before duck season and really liked it. Great gun for the money and real easy to break down and clean.
