If he's bringing a mechanic with him to check it out, I'd consider him more than a tire kicker and would do the test drive. I'd also profile the shite out of all potential buyers.

when i bought my kenner back in december i had the mechanic on stand-by to stop by his shop for an inspection. i had already ridden in kenners before so i knew what i was getting, therefor no test ride needed. BUT, i have sold other boats before and the best way i found to weed-out the joy riders is to require a non-refundable deposit to be credited toward sale post a satisfactory inspection.

The guy that asked for a test drive and a mechanic check offered 2 grand less than I'm asking. I've only had it listed 3 days I'm not desperate to sale right now. Don't need the money just don't use the boat. Thanks for the advice everyone. I was curious what others have done.

Best way would be a purchase agreement with 1K deposit. Other then that, tell him to take a hike. By selling it that way, you run off tire kickers and save time and money.

Sounds reasonable, depending on the price you are asking.

I just offered a guy $27k less than he is asking. He rejected, but did counter-offer. Let eth negotiations commence. I was somewhat afraid he would not even entertain us.

Fell in love with his boat at he Gulfport Boat show. for any of you that have never been to the Gulfport Boat show, it is pretty damn cool. Right on the water. Boats available for sea trials (not cheap ones though). Sailboats too.

i am selling a 19 ft skeeter fish and ski right now and i am wondering if it is customary to allow a test drive to potential buyers

How much are you selling it for and would you buy it without a test drive?

That isn't how things are done.

I told the last guy no when he wanted to test drive my boat. I said I was not going to wash it again and that I would make it right if something was wrong when he got it in the water. He wrote me a check on the spot. Never heard from him again.

I'm listed at 9700 and he offered 8. Pretty big difference to me.
