Looking to install some on my 18' Xpress Bay boat. Any recommendations on brands? Can I expect some improvements?

"self leveling" ??

link?

I'm familiar with trim tabs, but not self-leveling.

ok... I looked it up...

from the Bennett site:

"The SLT reacts instantly to boat speed and water pressure by adding trim when it’s needed. At slower speeds, when the boat is trying to get on plane, the actuators hold the trim tabs down, which lifts the stern and simultaneously puts the boat at planing attitude. On plane, and as the boat’s speed increases, water pressure pushes the tabs up. You will enjoy a smoother ride while the SLT does all the work."

How does that work with trimming out weight from port to starboard or wanting to bury the bow in a head sea or get efficient speed vs tab placement? I'd stick to manual, it's pretty simple to push 4 buttons.

Small boats,( 18' and under), doesn't have much problem with shifting weigh around to balance out the boat. So, I think those self leveling tabs would work out good. Now how fast do they work? IDK, but to me, give me a good set so I can trim out as needed. More so in skinny waters.

It is the opinion of the OB that this is the perfect boat an cannot be improved upon.

I'm guessing it has it's limits. We are talking about an 18' boat after all.

The one with hydraulics and buttons would be much better, but one would have to weigh price difference, budget, application and usage.

All that said, I have no feedback other than, I like my hydraulics.

Just wanted to give a little updated on the self leveling trim tabs. They are great, get the boat up on plane a lot quicker and at lower RPMs. The boat also handles a lot better in a slight chop. Before it would like to bounce, now it stays down and drives through the waves. I paid $130 for these and I would recommend them to anyone. Great for boats 16-20' imo.

I'm interested in hear how they work out in heavy seas. If a small boat is going downsea the boat unweights iself and the tab will be pushing down and giving lift to the stern. Everytime the stern rises, the tab extends. That shite makes me nervous.

I personally wouldn't get self leveling. I have lenco electric tabs on my 22ft skeeter. Very easy to adjust on your own depending on the conditions
