Picked up an upgrade for one of my rifles for Christmas. Was using a stock Bushnell scope that came on the Remington 700 .270 win at purchase from Cabela's. Upgraded to a Nikon Prostaff with BDC reticle. Nothing fancy but a definite improvement.

Anyway, I'm looking for a set of scope rings to upgrade the mounting as my scope rings are stock as well. Doing some research I see rings for as little as 10 bucks with great reviews and some considerably more pricey ones with great reviews as well.

My question is this. Is there a huge difference in quality between these lower priced steel rings and the higher priced? Also, do any of you have some go to rings that you are satisfied with that you recommend?

TIA

always get the best quality you can afford. its what is holding your scope to your rifle. why not spend a few more dollars... at a minimum get the leupold mounts.

PTBob,
Congrats on the opportunity to upgrade your gear! I've used a lot of different scope rings through years (including Tasco, Weaver, Leupold, Burris, Redfield, T/C and SSK to name a few). Nowadays, when given the option, I use only Burris Signature rings (the version w/ the plastic inserts) and a Weaver one piece base. Since I started using the Signature rings I stopped lapping the scope rings. Plus, you won't mar the scope finish when using the Signature rings. Although they're real popular w/ some, I don't like the rings and base in a single piece as it limits the options for mounting the scope forwards and backwards.
