bought a pair of Nike Lunar Flyknits a few years ago, haven't bought another model since. they're pricey, but if you've got a Nike outlet nearby you can get last years for half the price.

think i'm gonna try the all out flyknits next purchase

Running surface plays a large part in your selection and overall comfort. I wear the New Balance Minimus.

Went to academy today and bought wife and myself a new pair of brooks. Mine are ugly as hell but extremely comfortable. They had several pairs on clearance today

Running shoes are personal. Some people like a lot of cushion. Some don't. Some like a lot of "support", some like some a little looser fit. Best bet is to go to a running shop for your first pair, then tweak from there.

If that's not available, Brooks ghost are a shoe you can get from Academy that are pretty solid. From there you can learn what you like better.

Altra for the win, you need to know what type of support or stability you are looking for. Can't remember the model but one of them have a stabilipod in them & I use them for work daily.

I wore Asics from high school up till this year, tried on a pair of Brooks Ghost and liked them, they were cheaper than the comparable Asics (not sure if they were the nimbus or cumulus), for support try the Asics Kayano.

Now if I only used them for what I bought them for.

If you're around BR check out Fleet Feet on Perkins near LDWLF on Quail Drive.

I have low arches (flat footed) and overpronate so I need a lot of support in a shoe...

Best two I can say to try out is the Asics GT2000 (what I currently wear and have worn for the last 5+years) very comfortable with good support

Brooks Beast has great support as well, but if you don't need that much, then the Brooks Adrenaline are also good shoes for overpronaters/ flat feet

If you're not sure, you can always go to varsity sports- they will watch your body mechanics and be able to guide you to what shoe would best work for you.

I run 3-5 miles every day and have messed around with a bunch of shoes. By far the most comfortable and durable have been Brooks Launches. A close second was New Balance minimus but I have torn through 3 pairs of them.

Go to a running store an have them fit you. Your feet, shins, and knees will thank you.

New balance - I would recommend a professional fitting. They can look at your gait and if you pronate or over pronate etc

Gel Kayano

I've been using this brand since 2010 and never had an issue.

They're expensive but worth it. I used to have horrible shin splints. These have prevented them nonstop and helped me train for two marathons now.

I'm similar. The Brooks Adrenaline were great, and I've had a couple pair of those. I switched to the Ravenna last time and like them better. They still provide support but aren't as bulky feeling.

Go to Varsity Sports if you're in BR and get fitted for some Newtons. I love mine - they have extra support and a cushion zone in the tread on the ball of your foot. It helps take some of the impact off your joints and makes your feet not throb so bad when you're done running.
