Son has been saving his money for a pistol. This is what we went with for his first semi. Any of you had one? Just wondering if there were certain rounds it doesn't like before I stock up.

It was probably 10 different types when I shot my dad's. My advice....dont stock up until you know it'll shoot something

Mine was/is finicky. Picked up an M&P Compact 22 a couple of years ago, and haven't touched the Ruger since.

Every .22 pistol seems to be different in terms of ammo preferences. IIRC mine was OK with MiniMags, but not much else.

My SR22 seems to prefer Hornady.

I kinda doubt that considering Hornady doesn't make ammo in 22lr.

Mine seems to feed pretty much anything I've tried about the same. Everything from Federal bricks or Aquilla to Mini mags.

I did have a magazine issue. One of the mags had fail to feed issues every two or three shots. Other mag functioned fine. Ruger replaced the mag and no more issues

I haven't got to shoot mine a bunch to know what it likes yet. I wish there was a better trigger for it.

Well he put 222 rounds of Winchester 40g copper through it today without one misfire. Fun little gun to shoot. Glad we added it to the colllection.

There is. Unfortunately it's made by S&W for their M&P22 Compact.

Seriously, the trigger is why I "abandoned" the SR22.

Everyone in our family (kids and grownups) prefers the M&P by a wide margin. Plus, the M&P has been reliable with every kind of ammo we've tried (40 grain, 36 grain, 30 grain, solid point, hollow point, et al).

This^^^
Try a few different rounds. When you find one that has adequate accuracy and functions reliably, buy a large quantity of it.
