I realize many of us hunt from box stands here, but does anyone have any experience with a rifle tripod and mounting to an arca rail. Starting to look into a tripod for western hunts.
Thanks
Thanks

I use a Two Vets The Ruck tripod with a Spartan Davros Pro head and their rifle adapters. It's pretty incredible. Magnet connection and quick off and on. They also sell a bipod that snaps into the rifle adapters. Will dig up a pic or two

I got a carbon fiber tripod off amazon. It holds this heavy arse rifle and I dont use it enough to spend thousands on a tripod. Ill try to find a link for it.
Amazon
Mine came with a ball head, but it looks like thats unavailable now.
The arca rail is nice. I know most like the friction lock legs, but my novice arse has never had a good experience with them and Ive dropped tons of stuff. So I like the legs that clamp.
A guy has a good write up on snipershide.

What type Western hunts are you looking at? Consider shooting off your pack if you are hiking in far at all.

I shot a bipod and my pack for antelope last year and that worked well as my shot was probably taken a mile from the truck. Next year we have a vehicle based hunt for mule deer and i'd like to have the tripod in the truck.

i also currently have a bog type setup that my son utilizes for turkeys, and was thinking of going to an arca on his shotgun.

Cameralandny has the slik 824 cf on sale for $150. I have one and it’s really beefy for non “shooting tripod”. It has a center post like the one posted above.

I use a Kopfjager K700 tripod with a SUNWAYFOTO XB-52DLG Low-Profile Ball Head with Duo-Lever Clamp DLC-60 Arca - ball head
There are more expensive set ups but i have used this weekly for 2 years and had no issues. i have also used this Arctise Ball Head
I prefer an arca rail ball head with a throw lever. some have a knob to tighten onto the ball head. I have used both.

The first time you cover serious ground you'll leave it behind and improvise.

The kophjager k800 is carbon fiber (3.5lbs) and folds to 19" I believe. Pretty light for packing

I have the Kopfjager reaper grip with Leofoto ball head on a carbon Field Optics research tripod (on sale at a heavy discount). Good investment, I started using it for my son and now love the system. Slowly trying to put arca rails on everything I own to reduce the weight compared to the reaper grip.
Lots of packages out there in all price ranges, just have to be patient to find a good deal (higher price = lower weight). Check out foxoptic they have some good videos on tripods and Salmon River Solutions has some really lightweight arca rails.
