Anyone doing it? I'm probably too new to Yak fishing to do it this year and wouldn't know where to stay. Hopefully next year.

No such thing as too new for yak fishing and ride the bull tournament. It's one of the few tournaments that doesn't require much skill, it's probably 95% luck. Bring a lot of anchor rope, drop a line down in caminada pass with some cracked crab or mullet, fight sunburns and heat stress all day while waiting for the lucky bite. Don't let being new to the sport keep you from going check it out!

I did it for the first time last year and don't really see myself doing it again unless some friends want to get together and make a weekend of it. It's pretty boring, basically sitting anchored somewhere for hours hoping to catch a fish, it's more of a lottery than a test of skill. It's cool to see that many kayaks(700+ last year) and check out some of the sponsor booths and some of the activities going on through the weekend but the fishing part is boring. Bring a book and alot of beer.

Correct. Targeting bull reds. Rotomold flotilla in the pass. Big boats out to run and weigh.

Last years winner, from a paddle board.

Yep, in Caminada pass.

I'll second what makers said, just go do it, especially if you're new to yakking, it's a good experience.

Bring heavier tackle so you can land them quickly and not get pulled all over the place. Pack light and bring a radio and plenty of beer.

Bring lots of anchor line too, at least 50'. That should let you anchor most places.

That was from 2014, the 2015 winner was also a woman though, caught from a canoe while fishing with her husband about 50 yards from me about 45 minutes before the end of the tournament. I think the guy she knocked to 2nd had been sitting in first since about 8am. I was super jelly.

Serious question and I'm not trying to be a dick.

Is it that much more difficult to catch one out of a kayak as opposed to a motor boat?

Not really. It is more fun though.

Rickys motel is not far away. I think it's like $100 a night.

Most of my buds that have done it said they won't be doing it again.

Seems boring as shite.

Seems like it would be a cluster f*ck with the anchor lines and fishing lines being so close together. One red would get tangled with everything around you.

Yes. Its not the most incredibly difficult thing to do but it is much harder to land in a kayak.

I landed a personal best 42" earlier this year in the kayak. It was much harder than several 38" that ive caught out of a boat this year. In a boat you have leverage of stand up and using entire body with ability to walk around. Only worry is popping line or cutting line on the motor.

In a kayak, its mostly upper body and you can not position yourself properly. You are always fighting clutter and other rods and sometimes some sort of anchor. Its awesome.

For those trying RTB, invest in a Bruce anchor.

Did it once. Never again. Luckily it was raining so it wasn't hot.
