Remington 700 - Fad or no?

It seems to a popular model for hunters alike. Mainly for its easy action I believe. But are they fads like the 1911?
I've been in the market for one and the price for an ADL model from Academy or Walmart is very appealing as compared to a BDL or better. Is there any drop off in quality with these rifles and their different models?

Fad? They've been one of the best selling rifles for over 50 years. My dad has one that he bought the same year as he got his brand new '67 Camaro

Only arguably the best action ever made but fad away.

Why do you troll the OB? This isn't the first instance.

Yeah it's kind of a fad. I wouldn't buy one but that's what everyone is going to tell you. I'd go a different route. And definitely be weary of the ADL. Not the same gun as the BDL.

Don't buy one, it would be wasted on you.

Not really trying to troll. I just recently bought a RIA 1911. I'm wanting a new hunting rifle and I hear the Remington 700's are the way to go.
A friend of mine told me they're modeled after the Mauser actions. Apparently that's why they're as good as they are.
A local pawnshop also has a Ruger 77 for $425. I could probably talk them down to cheaper than that. I just want a new hunting rifle for next season.

When you shoot that deer, keep it in an icebox. I wouldn't trust those newfangled electrically-driven freezers. Seems like fly by night technology to me...

If by modeled after you mean they are both bolt actions with 2 lugs then sure.
Kind of like saying the Ferrari was modeled after the model t. Only real thing they have in common is both being automobiles with engines.
They're as good as they are be wise there is a million of them out there and the after market picked them up. Good is a relative term.

Fad? had my 788 for over 30yrs, never considered replacing it

The 700 will shoot better than you, fine rifle and you can customize as much as you want to
Plenty of other deer rifle options out there as well savage, tikka, ruger, Winchester, browning, etc, all will do what you need them to do for a deer rifle, choose a caliber and handle some in the price range you want to spend and get what feels good to you

You really think that a gun design that's been around for over 100yrs is a fad?
The 700 is probably around 50+ yrs old or more. (Guess without looking).
Neither are a fad for a reason.

This is also a pretty good rifle. I've got one in .270 and it shoots straight and has an easy action.

I say icebox all the time and people think I'm fricking nuts. I also say hosepipe and I "tump" things over.
