Two kids, had to get the crew max. So nice to get them in and out. The bed is quite useless but it gets the job done until the kids get older.

Why is it useless? You haul stuff everyday that exceeds the capabilities of the bed? Is it useless because every once in awhile you get something that is a foot or two longer? Use a trailer. (not speaking about professionals that do need long beds everyday as it is easier to tote around)

Screw that. I'm not using a trailer every time I go to get a 12' board to finish something up.

Long bed >>>> short bed

I've hauled 4x12 sheet rock in a 6.5' bed truck. Don't see the problem? When you start getting to 16' it gets a little more dicey though. Ratchet straps are the lifeline of the short bed truck.

That's what I'm saying. If you do it often, get a long bed but I wouldn't say it's useless. I don't get 8'+ boards all the time. Why would I need it? I get plenty of rocks, bags of whatever, dirt... In the bed.

first truck ever was a 1992 single cab dodge dakota. As a high school kid, that's all i needed. Now? Tundra crew max. Have a kid and always bringing people fishing with me. Rarely is the back seat not an absolute necessity.

Had a couple reg. cab trucks when i was younger. Never again. I have an extended cab truck now and even find that too small. Cant wait to get back into a 4 door.

They fit diagonally if you don't put too many

Not since I sold my '84 Silverado with short bed. As for hauling long lumber close tailgate and wedge front of board under the toolbox. Put longer boards in first then shorter boards on top of them and then sakrete, potting soil, nails and spare tire on top of that.

I've had a normal cab short bed truck since 1990, I've done just fine with them.
Nice to be able to do a U-turn at an intersection.

I do that just fine. I may go off roading for a sec but who doesn't like going off road?

NOLA intersections are relatively unforgiving, but good for you. I also like the idea that I can't carry a lot of people and act like I can't "move" peoples shite.

Id like a crewcab w/ an 8' bed, but you'd have to go to the airport to turn it around.

Literally less maneuverable than a school bus. It's like trying to park a battleship in a boat slip.
