So I admittedly neglected this rifle by leaving it in a connex box at the camp for the last couple of years. I know, shame on me. I have other rifles and just wasn't using this one anymore. well last time I was up there I was disappointed in its current condition and decided to give it a little love.
the barrel and metal components had a lot of surface rust so I took it completely apart and sent it into my blast cabinet to strip the rust and coatings on all the metal parts, as well as the synthetic stock to clean it up as well.
I used duracoat aerosol spray (foliage green, flat dark earth and olive drab). my first time with this product as in the past I have previously used cerakote on a few of my other firearms and some for a couple of friends as well. I was extremely impressed with the ease of use with this product and would recommend to anyone who is a do it yourselfer.
anyways here are the results. I'm actually excited to get this thing back in the stand and draw some blood with it.
anyways, just thought id share as I haven't been on here in quite some time

Real nice....I have that in a 270wsm stainless stalker.

Stainless stalker with boss in .270 winchester here. Favorite rifle by far and extremely accurate with minimal recoil. that boss does its job for sure just makes it loud as hell.

Agree. That rifle is a 270WSM. Loud as hell but a lethal round indeed.
I don't have any pictures from before but just imagine a typical fire poker that's been left outside for some time ha

How did you get the camo pattern?

What did you do about the rust inside the barrel?

Yeah, before pics would have helped.

Looks good! I wouldn't mind trying it on my 22.

I will clean the barrel thoroughly to get the rust out

I used the "sponge camo" method. look on youtube very simple and easy
I started with an entire base of foliage on all parts an then on the stock layered a few lines of olive drab. then use a natural sponge dipped in paint of the opposite color (sponge the foliage on the olive and sponge the olive in the foliage etc.) and then did spot of FDE throughout to add a little brown. the FDE shows a little better in person.
sorry I forgot to take pics before hand

My absolute favoring hunting rifle. My A-bolt has the smoothest action of any rifle I've ever held. It shoots straight and it's sexy.

I will say my a-bolt stalker has a really nice bolt. I just got a rem 700 and theres a huge difference in how smooth it is. I just wish I went with a standard round and not a WSM. When I got the 270wsm I had a 7mm mag in the other hand....ah well.
I was thinking about getting a boyds stock for it to freshen it up from the synthetic look.

I was just thinking about doing this to my Browning BPS that is has the synthetic stock and non blued barrel. Its my turkey gun.
Is there any reason not to do a paint job like this? I don't care about the value of the gun I'll never sell it.

My old man painted his 870 about 30 years ago and it really looks like hammered arse now.
So plan on another paint job a really long time from now.

I'm 3/3 on deer with my .270 A-Bolt. Dropped a doe yesterday without it taking a step
