I wish the Vortex Talons came in 10x50s. But the 8x42s would be pretty bright.

Vortex Talon HD

Thats the route I would go for the $400 range.

I second the Vortex. I have the Diamondback 8.5x50. Great glass for the price.

I bought these last year on a recommendation from the OB.
Eagle Optics

They also come in a 50 mm objective.

The vortex talons are also nice

Cabelas has some Vortex Diamondbacks for $129 on Black Friday (usually $229). I don't have any experience with them, but I know people speak well about Vortex. I may pick some up.

I bought a $120 pair of red fields a few years ago. Very satisfied with them for the price. I can make horns out at 100 yards in the woods until after shooting hours which is all I need. I don't think they would work for open country where people need them to find deer in the first place, but they're fine for what I use them for.

I can vouch for those Diamondback 10x42s and for $129 you won't find a better value.

I second the red fields. They are a little on the heavy side but not to bad.

Bushnell Ultra HD (3 different series price points) 10x42. I have these as well as Vortex.

Bushnells beat the Vortex every day of the week.

I also have Zeiss victory compact & Bushnell's are preferable but kinda apples & oranges here.

I have some vortex viper HDs and I really like them. I believe the talon HDs would be really good at that price point, you can find them for less than 400;

I also have the Eagle Optics Ranger 8x42. Bought them a year or so ago, very happy with them. I bought them from the Eagle Optics website,they offered at least a 30 day full refund if you weren't satisfied for any reason.
