went and got my chicken tractor yesterday... 2 rhode island red hens, 2 buff orpington hens, and one rooster.... all around 28 weeks old

Looks like your up and running, I'm looking forward to when the rest of ours are old enough to start laying. We only have one laying right now but we are getting about 5-6 eggs a week from her

and all 5 of my birds finally learned to go climb the ladder roost on the bar at night!! took 2 days. Now i just have to train them to lay in the nest box and not the ground.

Interesting, when we put our chickens in the coop, the older one immediately began laying in the nesting box...never had to help her along or anything. Guess we got lucky or maybe she has done that before lol...

Get ready for more eggs than you know what to do with.

When I had hens, they began laying in the nests right away. Yours should figure it out pretty soon.

i hope mine do. im tired of climbing in the coop/run to get them already lol.

And as far as eggs go. The more the better. I eat a dozen a week now just myself, and my parents can always use a few

Put a couple of golf balls in each nest box. That will help lure them into the box.

I finally put my chicks in the tractor overnight. I checked on them a few times last night and they never went in the nesting house. I even put a light in there to try and entice them to go in it. Any tips on what to do to get them to go in the house at night. They are still too young to lay.

I have a buddy of mine that has 6 chicken houses that he raises for slaughter. I might go get a half dozen and see how they would lay eggs

They dont sleep in the nesting boxes. They sleep on a roost

They'll figure it out. Young birds roost on the ground in a pile to preserve body heat. As they get older they will find roost.

This is a bad idea. The breeds they use have a lot of health problems as they aren't bred for longevity. They also aren't bred for egg production.

I got mine a month ago and they did the same for a while. Do you have them roosting bars in there? They will learn. Took mine a week or so to walk up the ladder and get on their perch. I had mine trained after 2 weeks. They stay in the tractor all day, then when i get home in the evening i let them out in the yard... they peck around til about 7:30 then on their own line up and head back to the chicken tractor and march up the ladder to the roost. I shut the door behind them

Yes I have 3 of them in there. Guess I just have to be patient with them.
