I sleep on the couch most nights and need a biometric or other quick access safe to keep my pistol away from the kids. Any recommendations?

The domestically manufactured biometric (and other electronic handgun vaults) work well -- as long as you don't let the battery die, and as long as your finger tips aren't soiled by grease or blood (can confuse the biometric scanner).

I much prefer a handgun vault with a Simplex lock. They cost more, and have fewer possible combinations (but still well over 1000). No batteries.

You can set your own combination. And it's fast & easy to open in the dark.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a safe to mount or just one to throw in a drawer or something. My wife bought me a Gunvault SV500 LINK for Christmas and so far I am quite happy with it. You can mute the buttons and probably take the light out, if you're looking for stealth.

I'm a big fan of shotlock safes. No need to worry about electronics failing you in the time of need. simple mechanical access. very sturdy heavy gauge construction also
