Question about lumber for the OB

We built a very low japanese style platform bed. I love it, the wife loves it.
But ever since my accident last year, getting off of a bed 5 inches from the floor isn't as easy as it once was some mornings.
I have an idea to lift it up, but I need 4 30inch long beams of at least 6x6 true cut.
Does anyone have a source? It can be roughcut.

Were are you located? What kind of wood you looking for? I can cut you some oak that size for free, but it will be green wood. Something that size would take about 4 years to air dry out.
You can get some pressure treated beams in that size and then cover the outsides with good lumber.

check with the LOCAL lumber yard. you would be supprised what they can get. all the local yards are members of one of the co-ops and have good access to uncommon sized lumber.
what area of the state are you in?

In the grosse tete area.
I was just gonna sand the wood smooth and not even seal it.
The bed itself is a 2x6 pine rectangle with one crossbrace. It is topped with 2x4 pine with 1/8 inch gaps. The edges are rounded off. The whole thing weighs about 200lbs.
My plan is to add two boards under the 2x4s running lengthwise. Have the posts rest there. Run two large bolts with washers through each corner and brace the post inside as well.

Why do you need a true 6x6?
All lumber yards will have PT 6x6, which can then be firred/wrapped in #2 pine like the bed and stained/finished to match.

I'm with you on this, but I know in St Francisville there is a cypress/hardwoods lumber yard. I think anywhere can get pine.

Netterville. Used to sell a lot of ash, oak, and cypress to them

I just wanted at LEAST a true 6x6.
I have been known to superman dive into our bed when I forget how old I am.
We also have very large dogs who bump everything. The biggest has broken a 4x4 fence post off at the ground.
Just figured 6x6 or bigger was a good idea.
Open to suggestions.

not necessarily
Source: Worked at a lumber remanufacturing mill
6x6 isn't a common cut that's kept in stock at every mill, much less just getting 2 pieces. That means the mill has to bust open a bundle. I'd think a place like lowes would be a better bet than a local lumber yard. It's worth a shot I guess, we cut 6x6 every now and then, depending on the length they're cutting they may have some 30" pieces going to the scrap grinder. We used to have 36" of scrap on landscape timbers due to requested length of cut from length we were trimming from. Made great firewood

I live In New Roads area. I do have 8x8 that is a little over 8' that is red oak and green already cut that you can have for free. It was an extra from my timber built guess/camp house. Hell, I have a small sawmill and can cut what size you need. Just let me know.

Fishfighter, I'll gladly pay you for it.
Or at the very least trade you a quart of the clear stuff if you like.
It's a BS email, but I can call you.
Pretty fair chance we know each other.
