Just bought a brand new 2014 jku. I want to lift it about 2.5 inches, should I do it myself or just pay And have it done right?
I have basic tools
Lift kit alone is about 1100
Lift and install with alignment 1700.

Whether you'd do it yourself or not you'd still need an alignment, most shops usually charge ~$100 or so. I suppose the question is is saving $500 worth it to you? As long as you have the proper tools, time, and a few friends to help it shouldn't be bad.

I guess I need to find some friends who have tools and like beer and whiskey.

If you have any mechanical abilities it's not hard at all.
You need a floor jack and jack stands.
I would go on one of the Jeep forums and research the lift good. some of the jeep lifts cause bad bumpsteer.

A small lift is easy. No way should an alignment cost more than $150
Eta: What lift? I, as well as a few other posters, can be good supervisors if you make me shells and cheese

I will save you a little money on the lift:

If you are going 2.5" you can do it with a little help, it is at least a full day so plan a weekend. Like mentioned you need floor jacks and floor stands, no specialized tools but some help is nice. I would also buy a kit with replacemetn shocks.
You will be impressed with the offroad capabilities of your JKU stock, I stopped lifting mine (On my 3rd) and just started putting some better suspension components and bigger tires. This is my daily driver and I found as I lifted and got more offroad capable I got into more trouble and repairs.
If you have any questions about lifts and such let me know, I might can help you in the right direction.

2.5" is usually easy to do and can be finished in an hour or two with some help. I agree with the a post above saying the lifts aren't really needed, unless you plan on going out west and doing some rock crawling. New wranglers have 33" stock tires, 2" lift will get you enough clearance for a few more inches of tire depending on the width.

I have done a ton of research on lifts, with my previous jk I messed around with a budget boots. Mistake.
This time I am going to do the AEV 2.5 lift with bilstein shocks and geometry correction brackets.
As to supervisors I'm always looking for those and am more than willing to pay tribute in food and booze.

That's the one. I'm pretty open man, I'd just have to order the parts.
