I never got the suppressor/silencer thing. It's a suppressor but legally its a silencer. According to the ATF, it's a silencer. If you call their class 3 phone number, they will call it a silencer and will never call it a suppressor.
I get the clip/mag thing and it upsets me to see how uneducated some are, however, silencer is correct. Are people who hate to hear it called a silencer as ignorant as the clip people?

Yep, just pulled out an ATF Form 4 and Section 4.b. Type of Firearm (see instruction 1c) SILENCER is in the box.
Carry on...I am loading my clip to put in the empty magazine well.

That's what I've called them my whole life.

I have too. I have revolvers, single shots, double barrels, bolts with a blind box, and BPS and model 60 with a tubular mag. If I had a pistol with a detachable mag I would call it a clip. Also, when people say clip, I usually assume they mean mag unless I know they are talking about a military rifle that may have real clips.

I've heard them called both. But never had a gun that used mags so never really gave it a thought til it became a big deal on OB.

I wouldn't argue with you. I know what the proper term for it is. I just don't use it or care enough to make a conscious effort to use it.

I'm glad my thread was able to bring together the clip and magazine people, and the silencer/suppressor people.
