Price for a used Exmark zero-turn

I'm in the market for a new mower but was told about a friend who has a 2 yr. old Exmark zero turn for sale. It has 20 hours on it and is in mint condition. I'm not sure of the deck size, I believe it's 40 something. He paid 6k new. He said to make an offer and he'll negotiate. What price should I start with? I really have no idea where to start. Thanks for your help OB!

20 hours is nothing on those.

Seriously, that's a good deal there. 20 hours is like getting a used two year old car with only 10,000 miles on it. Shoot more like 5,000. By an old lady who only drove it to church on Sunday.
3,500 sounds like a good place to start though. Probably worth more. If you stay under 4,500 you are getting a great deal IMO.

Commercial mowers (I am assuming that is what this is if he paid $6000) will go over 1000 hours, easily. 20 hours is like a used car that still has the sticker on the window, dealerships still needs to fuel it up, and wash it for you.

take th 4k and pay someone else to cut the grass.
sit in a lawn chair and get drunk with the change.
call it supervising

I enjoy cutting my yard...and nothing like having good equipment to do it.

I used to own a lawn care and this is honestly the best answer.
I would sell this to people for years. $40 a cut gets you 3 years with a fresh weekly cut. by the time you buy gas, oil, blades etc etc. It doesnt pay to cut your own grass. not to mention weed eater, blower etc.
I paid 6600 for my exmark new 12 years ago. 4K would be a hell a deal

Was my selling point, as well.

Without know alot of details about the guy if he is looking at a commercial grade ZTR there is a chance he has a good sized yard... 3/4 acre +. I don't know many yard guys that are going to cut large lots for 40.00. I could be wrong but I know it won't happen in my part of the world.

Which part? The ZTR for a small yard or a crew cutting it for less than $40. The latter is why I walked away from my business 5 years ago.

My yard is ~ 3/4 to 1 acre. I currently have a Snapper rider that is 20 yrs. old and on its last leg. I wasn't looking to buy one until the old one gives out, but this came up and I think I'll jump on it.
Thanks for all the help! I knew I could count on the OB for their knowledge.
