By pre-spawn I assume that you're talking about when the fish are schooled up in deeper water?

Pre-spawn: Slow moving jigs fished off of points 20-30' of water. Rip baits over grassy areas in 10-15' of water. Drop shotting worms on grassy banks looking for early entrants of the spawn game.

Spawn: Wacky rigged worms near beds. Frogs over beds.

Out here on the west coast we are definitely at least two months from spawn and I was able to find a few of these beauties right at the edge of the grass banks in about 10-15' of water.

Hell of a fish Don

I will start fishing late January, being the reason I included the Pre-spawn. Gearing up for a Heroes on the Water kayak fishing event in early February in Bossier.

Ross, definately need to check it out beforehand. Thats a pretty big body of water, X10 in a kayak.

When spring rolls around and I'm done with hunting season, give me a shout on here. I have a bass/bream pond that's about 7 acres that is overpopulated with 1 to 1.5 pound bass. We catch the hell out of them. I moved my camp on the lake almost 3 years ago and I am still trying to manage it for bigger fish and knock down the population. We are just now to the point where we are getting some 3 pounders, but they still have a bunch of knotheads I need to get out.

I only fish spawn or right before spawn and always use a white Fluke.

Presentation is everything though. Never use it on rivers. Always a spinner on rivers or crank. But that's rare for me.

B&T - Will do that

Flukes, spinnerbaits, lipless cranks seem to be what I need to focus on.

During the spawn season, are you specifically targeting beds only, or other types of structure like a normal day?

Catching them off beds is probably like hunting high fence around here.

I bet these guys also claim not to shoot ducks on the water...

I love to fish rogues pre spawn . Also flipping grubs on jig heads and tubes to the ends of piers . Then the water gets in the upper 40s and low 50s i throw a bandit 200 series a ton . For bedding fishing during spawn ill hit em in the head with a beaver till they get sick of looking at it and bite it . i usually fish a black and blue or mean green crawgator jig if they wont hit anything else

People will tell you to get red ones, which is fine, but I learned of the magic of the solid white ones last year. Get red. Get white.

I got to get my yo-yo fishing for SacaCrapiPerch on before I can focus on catching bass and that's not till duck season is over.

Very cold - deep single colorado 1/2 ounce spinner bait Cold - deep swim bait Just kinda cold - slow double willow spinner bait, C-rig lizard and Rattle Trap Warming up - shallow spinner bait and minnow type baits like rogue and rapala, then weightless plastics.

Add a rattle trap fished slow with a yoyo retrieve in cold water. That or a shade rap.

Agree with the lipless CB prespawn. Only posting so this thread is saved in my responses in another month when I am searching for all these answers.

GL to all.
