OB,

I'm going to test and hopefully purchase a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 4x4 with 75k this weekend. My old man has an 2003 with 300k on it, so I'm hopeful about the longevity and durability.

I do all the work on my vehicles and know the basics to look out for, but hoping to find some knowledge nuggets from the OB to check out. I've never had a 4wd truck, so any good tests for the transmission and transfer case would be appreciated.

TIA

Shouldn't be anything wrong with them unless it has huge tires. Probably hasn't even had the fluid changed yet.

Idk about 2011, but I remember them having huge problems with the cylinder deactivation and burning up engines

A buddy of mine has a 2011 Tahoe with about 120k. The top end had to be rebuilt because of an issue with the cylinder shutoff feature. If it has it, have it disabled.

I think you need hard parts and a programmer to do that

It appears to be stock. 2 owners, original had it through 65k, 2nd had it a year and went 10k.

I think the 2008-2009 had that issue, it should have been fixed by 2010. im looking at the same truck and my friends a chevy mechanic and told me to stay away from those years

I just traded in an 08 Silverado crew cab 4x4 that had 195000 miles on it. It had never had any engine work done or even been in the shop for engine related issues. The only things ever replaced on it were front wheel bearing assemblies and front A arms.

It still looked and ran great for having close to 200K.

Of the motor, possibly. Of every single piece outside of the motor, hell naw

Nope, just need a tune. I went with HPTuners, and disabling AFM is easier than logging in to this site.
