I hope it doesn't spread to the ducks.

The long incubation period is what is scary.

Isn't this pretty common especially in the spring/summer? I've seen news stories about this in years past and it seems highly doubtful it's anything new.

That sucks if it can spread to other water fowl, but the snow geese population building to critical mass was bound to have some natural thinning of the herd.

exactly
Mother Nature has checks and balances everywhere...

snows and blues are catatstrophically overpopulated, to the point where they are destroying their habitat

sounds familiar unfortunately

This. Happens every year. Not really a big story.

Pasteurella multocida (the causative bacterium) is pretty common in soils and reservoirs and other environments. This case sounds like an acute infection. Fowl cholera infections presents itself in two types, with acute being the worse causing almost 100% mortality. Waterfowl are pretty susceptible to it, but I wouldn't be too alarmed.

Yeah, that's what I thought. When animals of any species congregate they are going to be susceptible to disease. It's the price they pay for protecting each other.

Sky carp. Just keep it away from Specks and ducks.
