I've been needing to get a good pair of polarized sunglasses for fishing. Mostly fish for trout and redfish, no offshore stuff. Wondering if I should spend $200+ and get some Maui Jim or Costa, of if there is a cheap option that would give me the same results as the expensive ones.

Also what color lense should I get for that type of fishing?

Amber base lens is best for inshore.
Costa 580p seem to be the best for me and I do tons of sight fishing for reds.
Go to a local store, find the pairs you like then search around online until you find the price you are looking for.

after years of saying that Costa's were not worth the money I took the plunge this year and bought a pair with my birthday gift cards. best freaking decision ever! even my wife when she tried them on was amazed at the difference. I went with amber lens its the best for inshore sight fishing.

one of my vendors finally decided to sell them to me at cost, I bought 6 pairs in total for the wife and I

the 580g's are really a lot better than the 580p's, I didnt even bother with the lesser lenses

If you're exclusively fishing muddy water like south la inshore, 580g will be a waste of money IMO. If you are at the rigs sight fishing ling or anything else under water they would be worth it. Just my .02

I like the SR91 lens from Kaenon over any of the Costa lenses. I swore by costa and smith for the last decade but for what I like to do, the SR91 works best for me.

It's a personal preference. Try a bunch on and see which ones you like the best.

You can get a pair of Native's (same company as Costa) for the $100 range. I've used this brand for over a decade and they work well.

When was the last time you lost sunglasses? Some people do, some people don't. If you are one of the guys who don't, then spend the extra cheese. If you are a sunglass misplacer, get the cheap ones.

I'll be honest, I don't do much fishing, but I bought a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses on Amazon in 2011 and they have been a fantastic purchase. These ones are pretty fragile, I'll warn you, but if you take care of them they will last a long time. I actually broke mine in half about 2 years into having them and sent them in and they fixed for something like $20 (I'd double check on the warranty).

They are 10x as comfortable as the cheapie sunglasses I used to wear and the polarized lenses are legit.

$30 (and no tax for me) cheaper on Amazon but not buying from an authorized dealer

this. however, do not get the 580 Rx lenses. the coating wears off, and they aren't very good about the warranty. plus they are $500-600.

I fished a lot of inshore in South LA. If you don't have on polarized glasses, you are missing a ton. And Costa 580g lenses are the best I've worn. Amber with green mirror.
