That is not exactly what I'm saying. I am saying it will make a more powerful wave at 70 MPH. Other people are using this differentiation of "on plane" and "on pad" to say that a boat doing 70 MPH produces a "smaller wave." Amplitude is only one of several measurements of a wave's energy. The faster boat will produce a higher frequency and faster moving series of smaller waves than the boat moving slower.

The wake is all of the stuff happening behind the boats front contact point with the water. The height of the waves doesnt define the wake by itself. A wake can be large with small waves (like what happens behind a hauling arse boat).
