Pickup Truck Owners: I want to purchase a midsize truck and need advice

I haven't owned a truck before but I find that I need a truck for hauling reasons more often than I'd expect. Therefore, I'm seriously considering purchasing a midsize truck with crew cab and I'd like to know which truck you think is the best buy.
I've done research and narrowed down my decision to three different models. What I want is a midsize truck (I don't have a need for a large truck fancy truck) with crew cab for my children which gets decent gas mileage compared to more efficient SUVs.
Here is my list (in order of most desirable to least desirable):
1) Toyota Tacoma - Research indicates it gets about 26 miles to the gallon on the highway. Also, I've talked to several farmers in the family who know their trucks and even though they are Chevy or Ford guys, they admit that Toyota trucks last forever and are made very well. Toyota trucks are reliable. Just look at what the rest of the globe chooses as their favorite truck - Toyota. Hell, ISIS has built an army of Toyota trucks.
2) Chevy Colorado - Research indicates that the Colorado has really become a proven truck and is challenging the market to be the best midsize truck period. Supposedly, the 2016 model will be ahead of it's time in terms of what it offers. However, I'm not a huge fan of the exterior look. To me it just looks blah. Sort of boring. I'm willing to put up with that if this truck is actually as reliable and well built as research indicates...but I prefer the Tacoma's exterior look.
3) Nissan Frontier - Don't really know a lot about this truck. What I do know is I really like the Frontier's exterior look. I think it looks sharp. It shows up on some "Best of" lists, but it's never at the top. Toyota and Chevy are the two that are always competing for the top honors.
Any suggestions from user experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The tacoma and Colorado have been redesigned, so the pictures you posted aren't correct. The Nissan is due for a redesign, too. The main rub on the mid size is price. For a 4x4 model, some can approach 40k. You could get a full size for that with year end rebates, and they have about the same fuel consumption.

I'm looking for a used two year old truck. I never buy new...

Then you'll be buying a shitty Frontier.
Used values on Tacoma's are ridiculous and the other GM trucks are still too new to offer good value used.

Do Frontiers actually have a shitty reputation?

Tacoma, I have a 2007 with about 176K on it. Minor issues with throwout bearing, one rear axle seal, ABS issue, and several recalls on mostly minor things. Watch for frame rust on used Tacoma's, esp if it's an auction vehicle from a road salt state. I like mine a lot, but it has never come close to 26 mpg, more like 15 but I do run 33" tires on mine. I personally don't like the redesigned GM's or their predecessors and wouldn't own one, ever.

I went from a Frontier to a Sierra, best move I ever made. I get the same gas mileage 18-19Mpg As I did with my Frontier, that's why when I upgraded I went full size. The full size was the same price as the mid size.

Very dated mechanicals and interior.
Fairly dependable, but not nearly as good of a truck as Tacoma/GM.
You'll be able to find them used, but even then, they'll be beat up.
Buy a new Tacoma or GM and save yourself some headaches.

I drove a 2006 Nissan Frontier for 4 years, king cab, only sold bc of 3rd child. Bought used with 40k miles, sold with almost 100k and never had a single problem. Pulled my go-devil boat, hauled firewood, dirt, etc. Drove the shite out of it, hard to stay off gas with the small truck and 260hp. Only complaint was that it drove like a truck, very stiff rear end, had the NISMO edition with locking diff. Wish I wouldn't had sold it...

I've driven them all.
1) Stay far away from Nissan trucks.
2) Tacoma will no way get 26 mpg but solid truck. Good luck finding a used one. Those things are like hens teeth.
3) GM is a good choice because it will be easier to get.
If you can find an old body style Tundra, Get it.

I've owned 3 without a single issue. Unlike my wife's shitty Ford Explorer that's broken every 3 damn months.

Trucks are unique in the fact they hold their value. You might save 3-4K on a used, assuming it is low miles. I would rather pay that for zero miles and manufacturing warranties.

I've had a frontier and a titan.
I tried to break the frontier, it wouldn't. durable...
but both the Nissan's had shitty MPG and rode like cheap whores

Look for a Tacoma that is 3-4 years old and around 50k miles on it. They still hold their value well, but at that age it will drop a little. They'll run forever. I never buy new either.
