This probably should be on the OT but my brother, a long time poster here, warned me of three things: Stay away from the OT, Don't talk to bananahammock were two.

I have read a couple of articles about parents who get rid of their kid's dogs and then lie about it. Has that happened to any of you or anyone you know? I read that it happened to Hilary Swank, and here's Roger Ebert's sad story:

quote:

When I was 10, I was given a dog named Blackie. He was half beagle, half mutt. My parents would not allow him in the house; wall-to-wall carpeting had just been installed. Blackie lived in a doghouse in the backyard. All summer long, he was my friend and playmate, and went everywhere with me, and I fed and combed him. That winter, however, it was cold for a dog. Too cold, and Blackie would howl mournfully all night long, and the neighbors complained, and I lay in my bed, listening, with a knot in my stomach.
One weekend I was sent on my first plane journey, to visit relatives. When I returned, I was told that Blackie had been hit by a car and killed. I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now, and inside of me, all of these years later, is fury that has not gone away. Adults may have the power to take away a kid's dog and tell him a story about it, but they do not have the right.

People that don't like dogs aren't worth killing, in my book. There aren't many bonds stronger than a man and his dog.

Amen. I would never date a guy who didn't like dogs.

My dog is my friend and protector.

Wow, when I was a kid I found a dog in the neighborhood. He was a black lab mix that I named blackie. He was abused and starved and I would bring him food everyday. Finally about a week of doing this he came up to me and let me pet him. He followed me home. My dad didn't want me having him along with our other dogs, and planned to drop him down the road that night. My dad would travel with his job and leave my mom and us 3 kids at the house. That day a car pulled into the driveway and blackie warned us before the damn thing pulled in the driveway. My dad decided to let me keep him. I was around 10 and that damn dog was my best friend for 6 years. When I was in the car going somewhere he would follow to the end of the road and back home he would go. I guess guiding us? He knew I saved him and he repaid me by being the most loyal dog I've ever owned. My dad found him one morning leaving for work curled up in his bed. He even cried when he realized he was gone. Damn I miss that dog.

it was a long time ago, but I'd love to rescue another one. Unfortunately, I chose my dad's career path and am never home to be able to take care of one. One day when I'm settled it will happen.

My brother, a TD regular, won't watch Old Yeller because he cries like a baby every time.

No, I won't disclose his TD name.

My brother has threatened me with severe and immediate retribution if I say who he is or tell embarrassing stories about him.

Those are my eyes, but they weren't teary.

My dad took my dog off as a child.

I came in from work one hitch and my daughter brought home two boxer mix puppies even though we already had 4 yard dogs. I gave her a chance to take care of them but as I thought she didn't. After 2 weeks of them shitting on the carport and she not cleaning it up I took them for a ride. I told her I gave them to a guy in our hunting club for hog dogs.
