Mind if I ask why you want to do this? How old is the kid?

IMO you don't want him to get a feeling like shooting a big buck is an easy task. It may burn him out on real hunting. Just my opinion

We don't go on guaranteed deer hunts. That takes all the fun out of it. That would be a shoot.

Giles Island would be awesome.

if he expects to kill a big buck with ease and doesnt, he'll get tired of hunting.

I've never been, but isn't Giles pretty much naturally high fenced being an island?
I've never been either, but it's not a small place and there are other large blocks to the north and open country west of the levee, too.

There is a place here by columbia mississippi (1.5 hrs from baton rouge) He can kill a nice one. I think a 130-139" is like $1500. Deer are priced by inches.

Wait...you know a place I can do this? I love eating cows and have asked several farmers, but they typically tell me to "get off their damn doorstep and don't come back."

You go buy you a cow. They may let you sledge hammer it. If not just take it home and do it there

If it were me and I know you said within driving distance of Baton Rouge I would make the drive to the brush country of South Texas and hunt those deer in the Golden Triangle. I have been hunting in Mexico now going for my 7th year and it is an unbelievable experience to kill these deer with a bow.I have killed a 155 and a 153 in Mexico. The 153 was 28 inches wide.

Giles is 9600 acres and is connected to Rifle Point HC (approx. 3200 acres) to the north by a roadway across the Old River Chute.

The chute in some places is less than 50-100 yards wide and deer can easily swim it if necessary.

From talking to guides, after the big flood in 2011, they have pictures of bucks near the middle of the island both before and after the flood in nearly the same place. Once they leave, they find their way back due to the incredible amount of food and the lack of pressure.

Kid is 13. I just bought a camp in Franklin County and took up deer hunting a few years ago. He loves it, but has only gotten one doe over three seasons - mainly because we can't get there too often and I'm a crappy hunter. I think he's getting frustrated that he never sees any bucks (except on our neighbor's trail cams) and I want to keep him excited about hunting. He also doesn't like it when we pass on the does in hopes to see a buck. If I can get him a decent buck every couple years to put on the wall, I think he'll be happy taking the occasional doe at our place until we get lucky.

P.S. I also like this idea of hitting a cow in the head with a nail. Sounds like a blast.

Two of us hunt on a friends ranch in south Texas about an 8 hour drive from BR. We are on a meat hunt, cull bucks and does. We each see on average 10 deer per hunt with several quality bucks. Besides us, only 2-3 other family members hunt the ranch. If I remember right it is just under 350 acres low fence. He was discussing last year about selling a few hunts for the 2016/17 year but he hasn't done so yet.

It's not upscale by any means, but a fun time seeing a lot of deer and often hogs. If you are interested leave some contact info.

He has a place to stay but you provide your meals. There is a BBQ pit so we usually cook outside. There is nothing like sitting outside on a clear night with a full stomach looking at the stars smoking a quality cigar and drinking some fine wine talking about the deer we saw.

I am no marketing genius but having a fence in the background of their whitetail buck pic screams canned hunt

It also hurts when your showcase buck has a slight case of down syndrome.

Seriously, is that a mount propped up for the pic?

There is a lot of good info in here so I didn't want to start a new thread, but I am fairly new to deer hunting especially with a bow and I am trying to find some local (Louisiana) outfitters to try and go on a doe/meat shoot. What is a reasonable price for a hunt? I have been quoted $600 for a whitetail doe and and $775 for an Axis doe hunt but those are a tad more than I was hoping to pay. Was hoping to get in the $300-$500 range or is that too unrealistic?

I am lucky enough to get to fish and duck hunt, but I want to put some venison in the freezer. I figured an outfitter hunt would be a better route than trying to invest in all of the means necessary to start hunting on my own. Would appreciate any info.

Holy old threads from the past Batman.

I'm no luck for LA based outfitters trying to sell doe hunts but I see many doe hunts in the $500 range on 2Cool all the time here in Texas.
