Great shot by your uncle. We got off a cruise ship last week and it was cool watching the flying fish scared up by the ship. I didn't realize that after they are airborne they can use their tail to launch for further distance off of wave tops.
We had Brown and Masked Boobies following along side the ship. They would hit the water for the flying fish. Then Magnificent Frigatebirds (bird in your picture) would attack the Boobies and try to force them to drop their food. Frigatebirds are the true pirates of the bird world. They are kinda rare off the Louisiana coast but can be seen at times.

Frigatebirds are tropical, this one was on a nest in the Galapagos which is an incredible place. The animals are mostly fearless so it is a good thing Cajuns never discovered the islands. During mating the Frigatebirds inflate air sacks to try to attract females. It is really odd seeing them flying around with half inflated air sacks.

Red Footed Booby:
Nazca Booby:
Flightless Cormorant (Darwin loved this one (well, not literally this one)):
Penguin (nearly on the Equator):
Great Blue Heron (bird is worldwide):
Yellow Warbler (lots of these in the States):

Todays weather. Steep Creek. Mixed rain, sun and snow.
Rising tide, Eagle Beach.
Snow squall. Mendenhall Lake
Beaver dam. One of two within sight of where I took this photo. Popular place for bear when the salmon run.
Cabin I found while hiking near Almalga Harbor, Peterson Creek. Grass matted from the deep winter snow.

This little guy has been patrolling my beach and bulkhead lately. It was really calm earlier in the day then got a little choppy in the afternoon so he was chillin in the calmest spot he could find. Here are a few pics of him almost on the beach where it was much calmer.
He wasn't digging the waves too much.

Nice. When I was younger the people who owned the camp next to us would feed this one gator marshmallows all the time, eventually it would come to the dock anytime there were people there. Not good for swimming
