So he didn't know what model it was, but said basically the exact same thing that I just did in my previous post. The panoramic setting basically takes a few different pictures, but aides you in lining it up. When you upload it to the computer you have to stitch them together in photoshop or something similar.

For a second there, I thought those pictures were from Grand Isle, LA. It's amazing how similar they are.

WOW! Great photos on here. I took this one just a couple of days ago when I was out bass fishing. It doesn't even begin to compare with the others on here, but you know how it is when you see it and take the photo of something you'd even always remember without a photo. It was cloudy with the sun cutting through just enough to light a slice of the far shore like it was gold.

The house. Ski area is behind us. About 2 miles by air, 9 by road.

Front yard, neighbors place.

Downtown. 80 mph winds today and temps in the teens. Snow blowing off the mountains. To the left is the Behrends avalanche path.

Juneau is unique in that is is basically an oasis in the middle of a wilderness. There are no roads connecting us to anywhere.

Across the street from my office.

Mt Juneau in the background. From Mt. Juneau, you can access the Juneau Icefield and go from ridge to ridge. You can climb up and ski in June.

Bluish trash can is a bear proof can. All exterior cans have to be bear proof.

Nice shots. I may need to pick your brain some; it is mid-life crisis time so I bought a VW camper van and we are going to spend 2 months exploring Alaska from Georgia this summer. Have you taken the Alaska Maritime Highway ferry? One option is to use that from Haines and stop at several locations on the way down to Prince Rupert. Pretty expensive though (around $900 for everything) and we've been to Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway on a cruise. Any places we HAVE to see? Right now I'm planning for sure on Fairbanks, the Denali Highway, Denali NP, Talkeetna, Anchorage (not for long), Kenai, Homer, Seward, Valdez, Haines. Have you made the drive to McCarthy/the Wrangell-St. Elias NP? From what I've read it sounds like most of the land along the road is private, the road isn't very good, and there is not a lot to do. I used to call on a plant in Kenai a few times so I've seen some of Alaska but never enough.

Many times. It's a cultural experience....

There is a ferry dock in Gustavus now. If you haven't been to Glacier Bay. If you have been to Glacier Bay, and haven't been to Tracy Arm, do the day cruise from Juneau.

Excellent roster of towns. Talkeetna is pretty cool, along with Homer.

It's pretty cool. I like McCarthy a lot. But unless you are really into hiking, etc...it's a huge investment in time and not a lot of return.

Sonds like you have most of it covered. If you are planning on spending that much time, consider the "top of world" and "Taylor highways." Whitehorse, to Dawson City, Eagle, AK, Chicken, AK.

Thanks for your input. We've been to Glacier Bay but would like to do it again; I'll look into Gustavus and Tracy Arm. In Talkeetna we know a family that runs an RV park so we'll get to know it pretty well and plan to take a flight to see Denali. Also wildlife boat trips out of Homer and Seward. Your comments on McCarthy help, I think I can find better use of our time. Like Dawson City to Eagle and Chicken which we plan to do.

This trip is the #1 item on my bucket list, not even sure what is #2.

I am assuming you are going to limit most of your activities to what is available by road or boat. Do keep in mind Tracy Arm, Also may consider the Denali hwy, Palmer Fishhook rd (Hatchers Pass) to the Parks hwy, and Circle and Chena Hot Springs.

Thanks, I'll look into those. The Denali Highway is on my must do list and is a drive I'm really looking forward to. After that we'll take the Parks highway down from Denali NP to Talkeetna. The others are new ideas that I'll research.

Here are a couple photos that appeared in the local paper this week. Looks like a pod of Orcas decided to go downtown... In the first photo, an avalanche chute is visible.
