First off Id be interested in the dead Tohatsu 25 as a parts motor. Second the new 25hp and 40hp 4 smoke Tohatsu motors are blowing up the 4 stroke scene. light and fast.

Don't think you can go wrong with Honda, Yamaha, or Nissan/Tohatsu.

Been looking lately and found a couple of places online with great prices.

I was actually thinking about upgrading my 94' Tohatsu this year so I did a little shopping.
I eventually elected to run my old Tohatsu a little longer.
I looked at Yamaha, Tohatsu, Mercury, and Suzuki.

My top choice was the new Tohatsu 4 stroke with tilt, trim, and electric start... I was pretty darn close to pulling the trigger on this motor but with a new baby on the way I decided to hold off a little longer.

Just bought a 25 Etec to replace a 30 Yamaha that never did run right. Not much time on it so far, but for a 2 stroke, it's quiet and doesn't smoke like the old 2 strokes. I really can't tell a difference, performance wise between it and the old 30.

It has a nice features...Power trim, electric start, idle controller, adjustable tiller...

Never thought I would say look at an Erude, but they seem to have pretty good reviews.

Short shaft or long shaft? 30 hp and under 4stroke suzuki is tops followed closely by Tohatsu. Nissan and 30hp and under Mercury are just Tohatsus with different stickers. Personally, i would stay away from yamaha under 40 hp because they still use carbs instead of efi like the others. Carbs on a 4 stroke is a little different animal than carbs on a 2 stroke.

Looked around prices are a lot more than they were in 95 I think I might just overhaul this one an have the foot looked at to, I hate to part with it cause it was a good motor for a long time

I thought they didn't make the 2 stroke any longer?

The Etecs are 2 strokes. Not saying they are the best, I think everyone probably makes good motors. Just worth looking into.

My 94' is still going strong... I run a 15x44 semi-V Alweld and with me and my fishing gear it runs about 30-32mph

They are great motors.

The new Tohatsu I looked at was about $4200 out the door at Lake Area Marine in Lake Charles... in case you wanted a price comparison. That was with the electric start, hydraulic tilt/trim, gas tank, and stainless prop added.

I have a 15x46 alumaweld semi v I bought in 95 with the motor, have a jack plate and it runs about 35 on the water GPS clocked I don't think I will find a 4 stroke to give me that speed on the water in a 25hp

Boat motors should never croak.

If you loved the thing, try and get it fixed.

We still run motors from the 60s and 70s.
