I just got back from Orange Beach and the water looked like river water. Buddy is at Panama City and sent me this picture. Said it was clear as he has ever seen it.

I mean it's not that clear but river water is quite a superlative. View from 30th floor yesterday, today was clearer.

Yea, that's how river water looks here in North Alabama. Orange beach is just too close to Mobile Bay to have nice looking water.

We were just out of frame of that picture, it was a lot murkier than last year when we went. We might be going to the Dominican Republic next summer, but after that I think we are going further east. Haven't been real impressed in OB the last 3 trips we've made.

Hows the Turquoise?

Turquoise is as nice as you will get without renting a house. The grill and hot tub with every room is great. We were able to catch fish in the morning and grill them on the deck at night.

High Cotton, you should never go to TX beaches if that looks like river water to you.

What were you catching at Turquoise?

I wasn't a Turquoise this year I was at the Phoenix West II. I caught a few ladyfish, whiting, pompano, catfish, and blue runners.

Yea I figured as much after talking to all of the people from Louisiana and Texas.

That's what I've heard. The plan was to get a nice condo, like Turquoise, with a couple... The couple said they were taking care of the booking, then in June told us they couldn't go so we were scrambling to find something. Ended up at the Island House, wasn't ideal but my vacation was already booked and wanted to go somewhere.

Anyone in or been to Fort Morgan?

Just wondering what the water/jellyfish situation is looking like over there.

I will be down there the 8th through 13th if anyone will be in the area.

Looked worse than river water in Perdido last week. It was not mus though. It was some sort of algae or plant. You could see the particles if you looked closely. It had just moved in when we got there.

I haven't been that direction. I think Janky is there right now though.

Green snot looking stuff? That's junegrass, and it's ruined our vacation at this time of year for about 5 years running. Sargassum is the bigger brownish/red stuff that can mat up and pile up on the beach. It's also ruined our vacation because fishing is nearly impossible with either in the water in large amount (tangles up in your line). We finally started going earlier in the summer because it seemed that the water was always bad conditions this late. This year, we had absolutely gin clear water the week after July 4th. Almost too clear because the fishing wasn't as good, and I think it's because the fish could tell my bait was artificial (I fly fish).

The water difference, though, is why we go down toward 30A instead of Ft. Morgan (where we grew up going). There's just no comparison in the water clarity. That being said, I think the surf fishing is way better out toward Ft. Morgan than in the 30A area.

I got back Monday. The water was real nice on Sunday. There were no jelly fish the entire time we there but there was ample seaweed.

Well, what had happened was.

I goofed around on the beach early with no success. I never made it down to Ft. Morgan because I was too damn lazy and the kids were ready to go each morning by 8:00 AM.

We went the 30a route this year, no crowds at all, and the prettiest water I have ever seen. I will book again for next year pretty soon. Would love to go to OB for the diff in travel time, but have had ugly water, jellyfish, or other things mess up most of my trips there. I have never had bad water going to Destin or East....I am sure I just hit it lucky.
