Does anyone have experience with this? Are they that much better than just a regular any brand battery?

thanks

I bought them for my boat and have been very pleased with them. They hold a charge really well and have lasted me 5 years now. If you're looking to buy some go to sams, they are like 60 bucks cheaper there.

When they first came out I was fishing 5-6 days a week, practice and tournys and loved them. They are much better than traditional batteries when used as much as I was using them. If you fish 3-4 days a month with days in between you dont need them IMO.

Agreed with above posts. Optima's are excellent batteries. If you are fishing anywhere remote, I'd say it's a good investment. But that being said, I generally carry 3 batteries with me when I fish...

Sam's does have them for $200 if I remember right

IMO yes. I have two in my truck, and they have been through some shite and are still running strong. I had one in my jeep which had kc's all over it. Like a jackass one night in a drunken stupor at the camp I left them on. They stayed on about five hours, and that little bastard started. I have no clue how. I know if it were a v8 or diesel they would have been dead, but it still made me a believer for life.

Optimas a few years and prior were great batteries, they changed their production plants and now are hit or miss on a good batch.

If you are going to pony up the coin on a good battery I recomend the sears platinum series. It is a rebadged odessey battery.

I didn't know they did this. I bought mine a few years back. How long has this been going on?

I had one in my jeep. Much like every other battery I've had, when I turned the key, and all else was functioning properly (rare thing in a jeep), it started.

However, if they're stolen out of your jeep, which, of course, does not have a locking hood, it will no longer start. Again, much like a regular battery.

However, unlike a regular battery, once stolen, they require a signature loan in order to get a replacement.

Bought one for my cranking battery last year and it's been solid.
Paid $200 but it's worth it IMO.

$175 at sams is what a guy at work told me they were going for after I told him sams was where I got mine.

Not sure, I was going to say 2-3 years ago and after going to their website, I am going to say around 2/1/09 when they changed their warranty

Sears platinums also have a 5 year warranty(3 replace 2 prorate) vs 2-3 yr replace (Optima)

I had 2(optimas) go bad very quickly on my jeep and then I just demanded a refund after the second. Have heard similar stories in my jeep club and a few boating forums. After much research, the new plants seemed to be the cause. They know it as well, guessing thats why they changed the warranty. Where the platinum is getting pretty much all positive feedback from all uses. I have two in my jeep (two years) and just put one in the boat this past weekend

Sounds like YOU'RE the gump. If not, hit me up for some good poison recipes.

Now back on topic:

I had an Optima battery once. Probably will never spend the money for another one, since regular batteries work.

odyssey's are arguably better, but Optimus are good.

Ideally, you want any AGM or spiral cell. The typical lead acid battery just doesn't handle all the vibrations and harsh conditions a boat is subject to as well.

Odyssey is the best IMO. I have had a few Optimas just go to shite in a year or two and not take a charge well. They had a bad run(for 3-4yrs) a couple of years ago and some of the garbage ones are still out there

FWIW, I have fallen asleep with my music playing at my house. We played it for 4hrs and went to bed. 8hrs later it was still playing and cranked my truck right up. I have 2 Odysseys
