Been shooting z7 extreme since '12. I don't want to ever get rid of it. Smooth as silk. Shot with my buddy last week who has the new Halon, and mine is much more quiet. I think he was starting to get a little buyers remorse

I would be curious as to how both were set up. Im a Z7 fanboy, owned one and will probably own another at some point since you can get them pretty cheap used, but Ive shot my Halon next to Z7's and remember what mine was like and I definitely wouldnt say any of them are quieter or much quieter than my Halon.

the fact that you can get a used Z7 under $500 rigged is a huge plus compared to what I just paid to buy and rig my Halon. A couple weeks after I was raving about my new bow, a buddy bought a ready to hunt, used Z7 for $450

My Z7 is collecting dust, due to work. I loved it when it first came out, since then there are a few things I would change in my next one, the short axle to axle is nice for the stand, but it's so short the string angle is very exaggerated and shorter bows are harder to stabilize.

Every now and then I get an itch to buy a new one but can't justify it without using the one I have. If I were buy one today though it would be a Hoyt carbon spyder.

Did you shoot a Hoyt before the Z7?

I bought the z7 in 2010 barely even broke out the rifle that year.

2 years ago I went to go shoot the Monster Chill-R just because I had the itch. Was very unimpressed, guy at Bowie said "since you're here want to shoot this new Hoyt" it's a damn good thing they only had the one they were using for a demo and it wasn't available to the public yet, because I'd have walked out the door with it.

When I bought my z7 ( previously owned a PSE x-force ss) I went in to shoot a few different bows. Shot a bow tech, then a Hoyt, then the z7. After the z-7 there was no doubt.. that little PSE was probably the most accurate bow I have ever shot, but was slooooow..

Z7s are great bows (like a Switchback XT with more speed) and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if the price was right.

If you decide to look at the new Mathews bows you need to shoot an Xpedition Xcursion 6 or Obsession Defcon 6 before you buy one. IMO both have better draw cycles than the Halon although it's close. I prefer the grip on The Obsession followed by the Halon. I don't care for the grip on Xpedition bows. Where both Xpedition and Obsession will blow the Halon away is wall, valley, and speed. I wouldn't even consider a nocam. You can shoot the Halon 6 at 55lbs and the other two at 50lbs and get more speed than the nocam at 70lbs. Even though the nocam draws exceptionally well, it isn't going to draw at 70 as easy as the others at that much lighter weight. The other 3 bows set at lower weight will also be as, if not more, quiet with the same arrow.

They both contract Kevin Strother to design for them. Obsession has been around for a few years and made bows prior to using KS as a designer. The owner of the company became ill which led him to hook up with KS. They have since been bought by Arcus Hunting (who owns Trophy Taker, Dead Downwind, Tinks, etc.) but the original owner still runs day to day operations.

Strother is a huge dick and terrible business man, but he is an outstanding designer.

Meh, I felt the same because the guy is such a douche. After I was talked into shooting an Obsession I didn't give a shite who designed it, I had to have one. Shootability is on par with my Switchback XT, it's quieter, it has a huge valley, and I'm getting 305fps at 67 pounds with a 450 grain arrow.

I deposed the guy in a lawsuit. I do kinda like him, and I suspect the products are fine. My problem is the fact that he never seems to stay put, and the history of his companies isn't that great. No way both of these stick around long. I am still surprised Elite is alive.

I figure Xpedition will die out. Obsession was gaining market share before KS and they have the Arcus money backing them so I'm guessing they are going to maintain some level of success.
