Any suggestions on doing a color fill project on an AR-15? So far I've done 1 AR and 2 Glocks but I recently got a new lower that has a lot are fine lines and I'm trying to do more than one color. I've used non-acetone finger nail polish remover before but recently switched to WD-40 to remove the excess. Any suggestions on how to keep the paint in the right places without mixing with the other colors?

Use enamel paint. Put as little as possible (only enough to fill the engraving) with a toothpick or tiny brush. Give plenty of time to dry. Remove excess. Works like a charm.

What are you using to remove the paint? I've heard non-acteone polish remover, WD-40, Hopps #9, paint thinner, and several others.

Nail Polish remover. Idk what kind though. I dont worry because my gun is cerakoted which I think is good even with plain acetone as long as it is properly applied and cured.

DeoreDx, what is that upper on your 22 pistol or did you build it all?

I built it myself.

-CMMG 6.5" 22LR barrel (comes with a collar)
-CMMG 22LR conversion kit. Made to shoot 22LR out of a 223 upper but you pop out the fake 223 thing that matches the 22LR to the barrel and pop in the collar that comes with the barrel.
-CMMG 22LR charging handle. Without it a FTE will lodge itself into the channel that the gas key of a standard 223 BGC runs in and it a complete PITA to deal with. At minimum take a old charging handle and fill that area with epoxy.
-Boonie Packer better mag adapter to use S&W 15-22 Mags which gives you last bolt hold open and the 15-22 mags are way easier to load. Actually slides into the AR15 mag well not really part of the upper.
-Anderson upper
-CMMG 9mm/pistol gas deflector. Not needed I just think it looks cool with a pistol caliber.
-Forward Assist plug. Think I got it from Midway USA. Can't use it so I just plugged it.
-Cheap ebay $15 free float quad rail
-KAK Flash can

Finally finished in the color fill. It is a Spikes Tactical Lower with the Pipe Hitters Union Joker design. A lot of trial and error went into it's completion but it's finally done. Next step is the lower build kit. Thanks again for the tips.

How many have yall built from an 80% lower? I just ordered a couple lowers and going to build a 6.5CM on AR10 and a couple of others.

Also who's jig did you use and why do you think it's the best one out there?

It's really nothing to it once you figure out your method of doing it. The joker it's just a pain in the arse because there are so many lines so close together... that and if I got any red into the white it would turn pink. Had a buddy do an fde punisher and it turned out great.

Anyone have any thoughts on the m-lok upper rails? I'm almost finished with my lower assembly and I'm looking to buy a completed upper. I really like the way the m-lok uppers look but I'm not sure if they are worth it because of having to find compatible attachments for it. Any experience with the m-loks?

M-LOK is good stuff, stay away from keymod. It sucks because I want to buy a complete 11.5" BCM upper, but they only use keymod rails.

But with confidence. Mlok will beat out Keymod in the future

This is the configuration I used to have in my avatar when it was built on an 80% lower and a matching in the white upper. I have since moved the in the white receiver set to a 223 range toy rifle setup with a stainless barrel 1/7 twist barrel cause it looks pretty and shoots 77gr SMK OTM out to 300 yards like a boss.

The picture I posted last page is the current configuration.

CMMG doesn't make the 6.5" barrel any more. I had to do a lot of hunting to find a 6.5". I didn't have plans on shooting suppressed and I thought 6.5" was a good length to get me to a standard carbine handguard . IIRC the 6.5 doesn't reliably keep 22LR loads subsonic especially suppressed so 4.5" now seems to be the length of choice for suppressed pistols shooters. I had to do a lot of internet hunting to find a 6.5" barrel. I found mine on some random sporting goods web page I had never heard up but took a chance and ordered it anyways and it actually showed up. Only reason I got the CMMG barrel was because Taccom 3G 7" barrel was OOS. and I was too impatient to wait.

https://taccom3g.com/product/7-ulw-barrel/

Mine shoots great. Very easy to handle and I can hit my 2/3 sized IDPA AR500 steel target all day long at 50 and 100 yards. It was not reliable at first and I had to do some work to get it to run reliably. My CMMG 22LR magazine never fed right. Hence the Boonie Packer better mag adapter. I also had some FTE issues. TACCOM 3G extreme extractor and taking a 22lr bronze brush sticking it on a drill and polishing the chamber took care of that. I also use the Taccom 3G pressure plug.

If I had it to do over again I would skip the CMMG 22LR conversion kit/bolt setup and buy the Taccom 3G bolt instead. Never heard a bad thing about the Taccom 3G bolt.

Well I couldn't pass it up, just dropped the hammer. It should be in some time in the next week. Heads up if anyone is looking for a completed upper. Primary Arms has the Troy 16" m-lok 13" completed uppers on sale right now. They have them in black and FDE. I think they are usually $600 ballpark and they are on sale for $449 right now not including shipping. Includes charging handle, bolt, and flip up front/rear iron sites.
