usually go to Bullets and Bows in Rayne for my firearm needs so I'm unfamiliar with other shops.

Come see me at Bowie Outfitters on Perkins. Our prices smoke most local shops' prices. If not Bowie's, travel to Interstate in Hammond, which, admittedly, is the best gun shop in the state.

This too. The whole Piston AR thing was big in 2007 and 2008. People were looking for a solution to a problem that honestly does not exist. New DI guns are just as reliable as piston ARs. Stick to the system the gun was made for. FWIW, LWRC makes a great piston AR and is the only piston AR I would consider purchasing.

Just wanted to share my ~$20 light build. I had a scope mount laying around and bought this $12 light and a simple rail that fit the magpul. The light could be a tad brighter but I like that it adjusts and just runs off a single AA battery.

Simple and sleek, just like my existing setup. Just wanted to share.

The push button is easily pressed when I have my hand on the foregrip.

Ok so I just purchased my first AR. Went with the Ruger AR-556. I am wanting to add a Leapers UTG Pro handguard. What's the best route to go with this and what else do I need? I think I'll need a low profile gas block. What's the going rate for a gun shop to install this and are there any good recommendations? Located in Houma but can travel. TIA

Don't. You could get an ALG defense rail for almost the same price. Quality on the ALG will be much better.

Carson... Got my first AR today as well... Why are suppressors so expensive? I was quoted $1000 and a different license was needed... What's the deal?

You have to pay a $200 tax. Suppressors are made to last since you paying a tax and waiting for 4-5 months to get it.

If the HPA passes, they will become cheaper.

Cans are expensive because of the materials that go into making them and the barriers to entry in the NFA market, which keep the race-to-the-bottom dealers somewhat at bay. You can find aluminum cans for half your quoted price. However, if you're going to buy one supressor for a rifle you should probably make it an Omega.

You can buy the can as an individual, but the most popular way is to setup a trust. Google "NFA Trust". If you live in Louisiana you will need an attorney to do it. Don't skimp on the trust either. You want to be certain it is legit and has longevity. If you cheap out and it's contested later you could be screwed.

You're probably looking at $300 for a good trust (one time fee) plus $200 for the tax stamp and then however much the can is for a total on your first NFA purchase.

I still don't get it... It's an accessory that makes the gun quieter.... I guess the hardware, installation and tax makes it $1000+ and waiting 4-5 months bleauxs

No real installation. It's just a very limited market that uses very expensive materials and has a lot of r&d going into the products.

I hope this happens. IF it did, I would be willing to bet the $200 tax stamp would still be in place, you just wouldn't have to wait any more. No way the gov just gives up that pile of money without making it up somewhere. I guess the worse alternative would be that they raise the tax on other NFA items. Kind of a revisiting, since the $200 rate was put in place back when $200 was a shite pile of money.
