Obstacle race shoes...do these work?

My little brother talked me into doing the Spartan beast in Dallas...I'm going to die. But either way, I want to find some cheap, decent shoes that won't facilitate my death. I don't want to spend more than $60. Any thoughts? Would these work?

they help, but more importantly you need a good set of ankle gaiters

What are the purpose of those? Never seen them.

Hmmm, those would make good disc golf shoes.

Compression sleeves for your legs help a lot as well. Did the Spartan super in Saraland, Al last October. Good luck.

I was originally going to do the super with my brother, but ended up moving and couldn't. Any advice? What type of gear to bring? Other thoughts? The spartan site said bring like a hydration pack...but what do you do with it when you are doing obstacles like rolling around in dirt, etc.? How did the compression sleeves help? How do the ankle covers help primarily? water? mud? debris?

I thought hemp sandals were required footwear for disc golf
