I'll start by saying that I'm bias towards Browning because I was raised on their rifles and shotguns.

How good of a gun am I getting for 1k? Is the name worth it? I'm comfortable at that price.

What other guns should I be considering at that price point?

I have a 15 year old abolt that shoot the same as my r700 with a new stock and trigger. Just a fantastic gun. I have shot a few xbolts and they seem even better. There is no real after market for them but if you just want a stock gun that shoots great, that is the way to go. The bolt is incredibly smooth, has a great trigger, magazine, and shoots straight.

some of the higher-end SKUs are nice. i just think it's crazy to charge what they charge without an accuracy guarantee. lots of name involved in that sticker price

Is SKU a brand Carson? I don't believe I've heard of them.

I think he's referring to their higher end models

Overpriced. I would go Tikka over them in a heartbeat.

My brother bought an xbolt last year. It's a nice gun. But I will take my 20 year old abolt over it any day.

stock keeping unit. sorry a lot of stores will refer to models as "skus"

i just meant the higher-end models. the high grade, the white golds, the LR hunters, some of the ATACS models

I've looked at tikka and I don't like them. I'm looking for the highest quality rifle(trigger, action, wood) at 1k. It would help if it's pretty too.

I just checked out the sako and they seem to be nice.

I find x bolts are ok. I would not trade an a bolt for three of them however. I am talking about the old a bolts, not the current economy one.

I have an x bolt medalion in 243.
Its my go to rifle. leupold VXIII with flip up leupold caps and a mountain strap. Dead nuts accurate, beautifle gun.
My # 2 is a win model 70 supergrade in 270 same scope set up.

Sako is one of the best production hunting guns you can buy. I have killed most of my deer with one.

Tikkas use Sako barrels and the actions, while slightly different, feel very similar.

honestly, id get a tikka and use the extra $350 towards a nicer scope. our customers have tikkas that consistently outshoot rifles that cost 2-3x as much

I have a Browning Xbolt. I love it and will out shoot me. The fit and finish are top notch. It wears Swaro glass and kills deer just fine. Will make a great gift to my future son.

Personally I would get a R700 or sako over a browning for 1k.
