Compressor is probably not turning. Could be just low on Freon and the high pressure switch kicking in not allowing compressor to engage.
First step, check Freon.

Is the belt for the AC broken?

Is checking the freon something I can do myself? If so how?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Need a gauge/set of gauges to check. Does the compressor click on and off?
Posted on 1/6/15 at 5:40 pm to ThatsAFactJack
Well you need to check the ac compressor and belt they are on the passenger side of the motor in the front toward the bottom of the motor. Check for the belt and then turn the truck on and see if the compressor kicks on

I dont remeber hearing it kick on but I will check shortly soon as my daughters tumbling class is over. Any idea the cost if the compressir is out?

I think i am lookin at the right belt slightly on passenger side below motor. and yes it turns when the truck is on. What next? Blows fine just not cold at all and worked fine yesterday
Thanks.
Thanks.

My biggest concern is i dont want to get raped if all i really need is freon?

Those trucks were notorious for the blend door actuator going out. Does it have the dual climate control?
Posted on 1/6/15 at 6:42 pm to sherrifftaylor
If by dual climate comtrol you mean control in fromt and back. No. If u mesn 2 temp controls in fromt then Yes. How much am i looking atin repairs?

If it were that, it would be blowing hot out of one side and cold out of the other. So you can hear the compressor kicking on and off?
Posted on 1/6/15 at 7:08 pm to Hammertime
No i dont hear it kicking on and off. Im not mechanicslly inclined so it may kick on amd off i just dont notice or hear it.

Can i just roll up to a mechanic andask them to check freon before trlling them my issue and opening myself up to get taken for a ride?

Is the cycling switch on the accumulator oily has hell? They are notorious for leaking and if the pressure is too low it will not allow the compressor to operate.

No clue where to even look to amswer that question. Not mechanically inclined. I can change the battery and air dilter and thats about it.

Well they make pretty simple R134a charge kits with built-in gauge for folks like you.
Got to local autoparts store, look for something like this.
Look for the low-side port (it's the only one this kit will fit) on the AC line under the hood and follow the instructions. AC systems leak and after 10+ years yours might be down just enough to keep the compressor from cycling. It will kick on as soon as you've put in enough refrigerant to bring the system pressure up. Done this lots of times and I check my vehicles every Spring and top them up if needed.

on that age of truck, I am almost 100% sure it is low on freon (if it gets low enough, the compressor won't even cycle)...the cheapest thing to do would be to find a friend with a gauge set to check that...

The silver cylindrical bottle mounted to the passanger side firewall with a line that goes inside to the evaporator and one that goes down to the compressor.
