Didn't realize cadet's (enforcement officers) base pay was that much. I do agree that it's probably right where it should be. They're getting more than many, might I even say more than most, municipal police officers get statewide...

Some of the specialists and biologists make pretty good bank...

Those salaries do seem pretty reasonable. I was surprised to see entry level cadets making so much more than entry level biologists...

I have a feeling there are going to be a bunch of applications coming in soon.

They always have a lot, and the training is some of the hardest in the state for law enforcement.

I used to work in Civil Service. You really can't compare local vs state agencies. When you compare apples to apples, they are similar. That link says LADWF Agent starting is $46,600. Starting State Trooper is $46,600 as well and goes up to $50,000 after first year. LINK

Can the fish and wildlife guys work crowd control and security for extra cash like the state troopers?

They deserve the 46K to start, considering that most of the people that they will encounter for enforcement are armed. I would think it is a lot more dangerous than being a trooper.

They rarely hire new entry-level people, and from the job postings I've seen in the past, entry-level biologists don't make that much (more like $24k). Also, the cadet academy is serious business. It is structured similarly to LSP academy, but they also have to do biological training after their police training. IIRC, they live at the facility in BR for 6 weeks during the police training portion.

You also have to have a degree to do almost all of their jobs, and I believe at least an associate's to be a green jeans. The upper level management is paid on par with every other city/parish/state agency (except cops with their OT)

This seems like a bullshite article to fire up LA residents about salaries. Little click-bait "article" (really only pictures with captions) got me pissed off this morning.

Dammit CD. Now I'm gonna have to take an angry poop

Unless things have changed, I believe LDWF cannot work details.

I applied about 10 years ago for ascension, ebrp, wf and ef Parish. I later found out there was one opening for those parishes for 123 applications. Not counting other wardens trying to transfer to those. It's very selective. At the time you had to have a bachelors or 4 years active military. Had to have a 90 or above on civil service test for a chance at interview.

Saltwater Series tournament director making 52K is ridiculous

Everything else is reasonable.

ETA: Hopefully that shite goes away soon.

It's Nola.com. Everything they do is click bait crap. Their commenters are better writers. Dumb article, those guys work long hrs, alone, and the pay is justified.

As a civil servant, that is not exactly hard to get. I took that exam hung over and scored a ~94.

The really hard part is trying to get past the psych evaluation.

We probably all agree that the level of professionalism within wildlife and fishers greatly surpasses that of typical law enforcement. I can't help but think this is a product of their pay level and selection process. Good paying jobs with quality training attracts a far superior applicant.

I would love to see how much Sam Barbera is being paid as a "scientist" by ladwf.

I think the $46K is suitable for guys that work alone under the conditions green jeans do. I know they have as much power (if not more) than state troopers. I'd imagine the risk is equal if not greater as well.

This must be a theme for this weekend- select state salaries and certain tax deductions- by the papers. BR paper was bitching about revenue loss due to certain exemptions. What they fail to realize is that these deductions, like these guys salaries, are a good thing. Eliminating them won't help anything.

Ldwf gets their funding from license fees and the Feds. Not much state funding goes there.
Most of those biologists and agents are hard workers.
