Ive bought 7 of them with no problems. You may have a dud just return it. Trigger is a little slow, but they are great cameras for the price ($50 >).

It is supposed to take infrared photos at night but pics are not visible. The settings are very basic with nothing to do with night settings, etc. The batteries were new Duracells and daytime photos are great. Guess I'll go ahead and contact moultrie. Just wondered if anyone has similar experience.

Check online for a firmware update and also try a hard reset.

I meant to elaborate more on this yesterday. Currently have about 14 cameras. The A5 hands down gives me the most trouble out of any of them. I have 3 A5's right now. One time there will be 700 pictures then next time 7. I have yet to figure it out. No the M550 is a beast. For like $10 more I have yet to have trouble with it. I "lost" one in January, and just found it in August. Had like 9000 pics on it and still had 15% battery life.

Yep, just checked my new A5 yesterday. Over 2 weeks - lots of photos of a grassy field, 2 small deer at dusk, the outline of 2 hogs that are very close to the camera, about a dozen completely black night pictures. The IR just didn't do anything for night shots.

But, I read the manual and one of the steps is to put a switch to the IR setup and go out in front of the camera and wave at it from where you expect the game. I had not done that but did it yesterday. I can tell you in 2 weeks if it worked.

mine was doing this same thing. I went out Monday and tried this to set the IR range, and pulled the card today and it took pictures the first night, but they are too bright and terrible quality, and then the next night they are dark again. I spent a few minutes on the phone with them and they told me to send it in and they would replace it.

This. I've done what I'm supposed to for night photos and they are all just black. I have hundreds of photos of nothing in a field, three deer shots, and dozens of black night shots. I bought the camera as part of a learning curve so from that standpoint I guess I learned not to buy an A5.
