Agreed.
And I don't like the ol photo trick where you hold the fish right up to the camera.
That's a damn nice catch, no doubt, but I've caught a few around 8 that would look that big if I held them right up to the camera.

The actuality is that we haven't had a large storm in a while. Bass have had time to grow. That is the number one thing that affects those populations down there (not catch and release)
That's the reason they got rid of the size restrictions in the basin. Fishermen catch and releasing slot fish had no impact.

The damaged tail of that fish could be an indicator that the fish was confined in some type wire mesh cage or trap.
Fish that large and strong don't normally have their tail gnawed on by predators!

Answer a couple of questions...
What are the dominant and sub-dominant substrates in SE LA marshes?
Even if this animal had been hovering over a spawning site within an area of highly abrasive substrate, its tail would show a more even wear pattern rather than the jagged appearance presented in the photo.
My other question...
What experience and training do you have as a fisheries biologist or ichthyologist?

There were a few large bass caught out of the spillway this past weekend during a tournament. One over 9 and another over 8.

Saw a presentation last year about the basin bass limits and why they were no longer. The graphs were almost perfect little waves showing bass populations and response to storms. Storm would come in and populations would go up
Populations would get high, storm would come in and they would get low again
See if I can find the graph

We need Bossier to clear all this up.

Bunch of jealous high fence deer hunters in this thread.

The male fans the bed
Correct, but the female has to use her tail to move around and remain upright while she is on the bed. This causes her tail to make contact with the bottom, leading to the abrasions.
