Need to convert trailer to connect to riding mower

I have an old single jet ski trailer that I want to connect to my riding mower. Problem is, I can't seem to find a ball with a small enough shaft to go through the hole on the back of the mower. I don't want to remove the coupler from the trailer, but if that's the only option, any advice/tips?

Drill out hole on the back of the mower? Weld ball on mower?
I would want to modify the mower if possible. There has to be other people who have done this on the Web.

Pretty sure we drilled the mower out.

I don't really want to spend $60, the trailer is hardly worth that

I didn't modify the mower and used a quick link and a bolt. Has worked fine pulling a double jet ski trailer and 8 x 5 trailer around the yard.

That looks like something my dad would rig up

In hind site I should have painted the quick link and hardware the same color as the Craftsman to give it a custom look

I bought a large eye bolt from lowes and bolted it to the mower by drilling a hole in the motor guard to fit. The ball shaft does fit although snugly thru the eye bolt. It won't pull a lot of weight but it works for me. I hook up a small trailer and use it to pick up branches that fall in the yard. Cost I think around $1.50.
Lowes has both the balls and eye bolts so you can match them up in the store. I don't know if this is the right size but it is a close example of what I bought.

That's cool but I would probably need a whole new ball mount also. I don't think that would be deep enough to work on my mower.
