NatGeo's Big Fish Texas-Openly fighting against recreational Red Snapper

Anybody seen this show yet? I caught it for the first time last weekend and it has really got me chapped.
This guy Buddy Guindon is a special kind of A-hole. He is using his soap box to bash recreational fishermen (who he says are all rich doctors and lawyers) while claiming he is only worried about the "sustainability" of the fishery. He does this while his boats are shown catching thousands of pounds of snapper a day, year round. They are pulling up more snapper on one drop of the bandit rig than 10 sportsmen are allowed to catch in a day.
He is also one of the guys (along with the Environmental Defense Fund) who brought the lawsuit against the feds that resulted in the rec season being reduced to 9 days.
Anyone who believes that Gulf Fish are a public resource and should not be doled out to a select few federal welfare queens should support the regional research and management programs that are currently being pushed by people like Garret Graves and CCA.

I saw it last night for the first time.
I was like what's this? I bet this might be cool to watch...
Within 5 minutes I was seeing red.
Pretty much.

11,000lbs or Red Snapper sold for dog food
They did not properly ice down 11,000lbs of ARS and ended up selling it for dog food.

Well that's kinda true. I wouldn't say it's all doctors and lawyers but I would imagine that fishing offshore (with all the equipment/fuel/supplies) would be easily accessible for upper middle class+ while not so easy for anyou other class. shite even Charter trips are expensive nowadays.
Also only like 10-15% of the population that fishes in Louisiana fishes offshore anyway.

buddy has an offshore boat. we split cost between 5 people. boat was like 30k used, and it usually costs like 100-150 a trip per person for 5. not that bad really

GFY, snapper are easily caught fishing out of a bay boat. Is everyone who owns a bay boat upper middle class?

Link? Even if that number is true, what does that have do do with anything?
These clowns are claiming that the recreational sportsmen are the ones who are threatening the stocks and responsible for over fishing then proceed to pull 25,000lbs of fish from one hole.

there's no arguing with you buddy. I just spoke my piece.
I will never trust Garret Graves, who self-annointed himself as the "leader of marine conservation" on his website.
Guy didn't graduate college and states that the federal Red Snapper stock assessment is "rookie" science that's just silly.

It makes my blood boil, I've ranted about it to anyone who will listen. They're trying to play this fat a-hole up as the next Phil Robertson who is just a good ole boy never done no harm makin an honest livin. In reality he's an entitled piece of shite who was gifted millions of dollars worth of shares and now sells them annually to the highest bidder, never even stepping on a boat unless he just wants to joyride.
The dramatic angle is just icing on the cake. The notion that they might not hit their target is a fricking joke. It's infuriating when the guys pull up and start dropping, cover the deck in every size class of snapper and grouper, and then after two hours of full rigs have the nerve to say "well sometimes they just quit biting." No a-hole, red snapper don't stop biting, you took every single fish off that piece of structure and wiped out 5 or 6 generations. The exact shite that the recreational sector gets accused of doing and will continue to keep being blamed for, right there on tape.

Solid retort, dip shite.
look I'm not even getting into it with anybody on this board because if anybody thinks that regional managing the species is going to result in any less fighting is a joke.
It's going to wind up in a lot of 3-2 votes on the council because the Eastern gulf states are going to votes for one thing and the Western gulf states are going to votes for another thing.

Regulation Through Sham Litigation: The Sue and Settle Phenomenon
quote:
Typically, the federal government defends itself vigorously against lawsuits challenging its actions. But not always: Sometimes, regulators are only too happy to face collusive lawsuits by friendly “foes” that are aimed at compelling government action that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to achieve. Rather than defend these cases, regulators settle them in a phenomenon known as “sue and settle.”
In an increasing number of cases brought by activist groups, the Obama Administration has chosen to enter into settlements that commit it to taking action, often promulgating new regulations, on a set schedule. While the “sue and settle” phenomenon is not new, what is novel is the frequency with which generally applicable regulations—particularly in the environmental sphere—are being promulgated according to judicially enforceable consent decrees. For instance, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) alone entered into more than 60 such settlements between 2009 and 2012, committing the agency to publish more than 100 new regulations at a cost to the economy of tens of billions of dollars.[1]

What they've done to recreational fishing in the gulf is a disgrace. Period, end of story.

This has absolutely nothing to do with you pulling a statement straight out of your arse about who the recreational sector is comprised of, especially considering the misconception that snapper fishing is a rich man's game is a huge part of the problem. Stop deflecting just because you said something ignorant and got called out.

This, it escalated in a quick manner.

I don't get too worked up over most things, but this is one issue that strikes a nerve with me. Everyone involved in this decision making process is pissing down recreational's back and telling us it's raining. Our resident notre dame fan is a great example of how ignorance and apathy has allowed that to happen.
