It's loud but doesn't kick at all. The Glass is a Shepherd with the Elk reticle.

Nice setup, but why .338? I feel that .30 is plenty enough for elk. I shoot a Weatherby .300 mag, and most others shoot .300WM, .300RUM, or .300WSM. Don't get me wrong, the .338 is a great round, but doesn't shoot as flat or far as the others.

BTW, don't know if anyone has told you, don't shoot them behind the shoulder, shoot them in the shoulder. Usually drops them and gives you time for a follow-up shot to the heart/lungs. I've been told this by a long time guide, and several more experienced elk hunters. It worked for me on my first bull.

Good luck!

I like it, but a good condition old .338 Browning BAR with wood is on my list.

I don't even elk hunt, I just want one to have...

Met a guy at the campground at the trailhead that killed a bull with a .270 WSM. Had to shoot it 4 times before it stayed down. So no.

It was a birthday gift from my FIL. Yes, I lucked out with great in-laws and a great wife. He got a great deal on it at an auction. .338 win mag will work. He machined the muzzle break.
