This is quite irresponsible thinking and I fully believe if you give it some thought you will come to the same conclusion. You've been a member here for a long time and have seemed a reasonable and rational poster most times.

There are any number of gun safes designed to be mounted in your vehicle that would be a good solution if you wish to leave the gun in your truck, which I do understand the desire (or sometimes need) to do that. Here is a selection, obviously, a determined thief could probably get these out with some effort but most people robbing a vehicle are after an easy target, not anything that will take time and effort. https://www.gunsafes.com/Vehicle-safes.html

The problem is you have provided a criminal with a killing weapon. In the future you may actually provide the man who wants to invade your home with the weapon used to kill you or a loved one. Yes, I know that is not much of a likelihood.

I have a 43. How do you plan to carry?

If you don't carry front pocket or anything you should go 43x with the shield arms 15 round flush mag swap.

They sell a 9 round mag for the 43 that is as long as the 43 with the pinky extension.

Their 43x though fits 15 flush

Where do you carry?

I carry 4 o clock position and find that anything bigger than a 43 or p365 prints more than I like with t shirts.

Yea I got you.

If you carry the 4 o'clock try out the 43x and look into the shield arms... 15 rounds in that small a gun will fit nice at the 4 o'clock.

It'll be my next purchase.

I like the 43. I can carry 4 o'clock with the 9 round or front pocket with the flush glock mag.

Try something like a galco combat master. It works much better than a paddle holster at 4 o clock. Paddle holsters are thicc

I just don’t think there’s any getting around it with a t-shirt, but that’s a simple solution. I’ve got a galco summer comfort that I had for when I used to carry an M&P subcompact. I think I’m going to give my wife’s m&p 2.0 compact a try in it and see how it feels.

Your holster and or belt amd or shirt just aren't right for it.

It’s definitely the shirt. I like wearing t-shirts that aren’t overly baggy, and they’re not great for CC, but the little 9s work well with it.

You make some good points, but your personal attacks are unnecessary.

higher pressures compared to the 9

Saami max pressure is 35,000 psi for 9mm and 40. If you can shoot a 40 accurately, then it's a good round.

15-20 years ago there were reasons to buy .40 caliber. Back then people still believed in "knockdown power" with handguns.

With the advances since then in ammo design, good 9mm ammo (such as Federal HST and Speer Gold Dots) will do anything virtually anything a .40 will do - and do it with less muzzle flip.

12" to 18" is the ideal penetration.
Over penetration is almost as bad as under penetration. A bullet that expands does more damage than one that blasts clean through and on to the next target.

quote:

In the FBI protocol, bullets that fail to penetrate 12" or penetrate beyond 18" are penalized. Bullets that expand and penetrate between 12? and 18? of gelatin are generally considered acceptable.

I must say that I’m enjoying the discussion that’s going on in this thread, but I’m afraid the OP decided to stick his head in the sand and “fully intends to revert back” to his old habits.

Hopefully this thread will at least help somebody realize that haphazardly leaving a gun in their vehicle is not a good idea.

However, one that expands early AND penetrates is even better.

Every caliber benefits from the same improvements as 9mm.

I don't really like the fbi standards because now you see watering down of some more powerful stuff to control over penetration or over expansion in the name of meeting FBI specs.

Some people aren't as concerned about responsible firearms owners being lumped in with dangerous goobers. Maybe you're one of them.

As long as there are people who are not responsible and, through their inaction, leave gaps in the line for the anti-firearm crowd to squeeze horrible legislation through, I'll risk hurting your feelings.

Iu believe the 229 was in fact designed for the 357sig (necked 10mm) and just happened to be a great fit for the .40

Yes, I think you are right. The P226 predates the P229 but they redid the P226 frame when the P229 came out. Either way, both are fine for .40. I shoot .40 in my P229 all the time and no problems. Both are tanks with metal frames.

A few comments:
There is nothing wrong with the .40 S&W, it is a great defensive round. I carried G-22, G-27 and G-35 for many years. It does take a little more training to get accustomed to the different feel of the recoil, but I no longer feel any problem. While the greater chamber pressure does increase wear, most people do not shoot enough for it to matter anytime soon.
If you have ammo availability issues, a .9mm barrel can be purchased for just over $100 and you could shoot both calibers conveniently.
Keeping a gun in your car risks loss of that gun, but more than that issue is that I would worry about how my gun might be misused by the criminals who had it in the future. My guns ride my hip into the house - every time. It would really bother me for one of my guns to be out on the streets.

Truck gun...

Taurus 3G or 3GC.

Under 300. Great gun. Saw a 5000 round review. No fails. Guy at work bought 2. Shoots well. Taurus moved to Florida and those 3G guns are great.

I like the glock 43x size so wife can shoot. Paired with the shield arms mag you get a great size glock and a 15 round magazine.

God no.

I bought one around Christmas of last year, just for kicks. 245.00

The trigger is goddamn bad. The length of travel is so long, that I thought I was misfiring waiting for it to break, not realizing I wasn't pulling the trigger back far enough.

Terrible pistola. I sold it to my nephew.

Smith Shield is the way to go if you want an affordable subcompact. I have the 2.0 and the Plus.
