re: My Concealed Handgun Permit process

I dun' goof'd. I went to LSP HQ and did my prints in person, but I also handed in a paper (hard copy) application. I received an e-mail from them today saying that they're processing January paper apps right now. I figured that as long as I hand it directly to them, that I would be in the express lane, but, alas, no.

Something similar happened to me 5 years ago. After 4 months of waiting for my renewal, I contacted them and found out they were still 3 months being reviewing paper applications. They emailed material to me to convert the paper application to a digital application and I was approved in 1 month. I'd see if they can do the same thing for you.

I emailed them mid last week and they informed me that they are currently processing January paper applications. They did say that I could push an online application through and it should speed things up. Mind you I have already paid them via money order and did my prints, all in person at the LSP HQ in BR.
So, I pushed my online app through Friday night, and this morning I get an e-mail saying my app is pending review!

Approved today per an e-mail from LSP just now. That was quick!
They say 10-15 days to receive permit in mail.

Mine has been pending review for months in LA.
A state trooper handed mine in for me back in Dec/Jan.
It is an absurdly slow process.

Hell, move here to Tennessee. Just passed a law to allow no-permit gun carrying. Will allow most adults 21 and older to carry handguns without first clearing a background check and training. Effective July 1st.
All those classes and training. Damn. Guess I'll still keep it up for reciprocity states.

I let mine lapse a few years ago (by like a month, just sloppy on my part). It got me into a nightmare scenario where they thought I was someone with a similar name who had like 12 felonies. These idiots became convinced that a guy with a different middle name in a different county was me, in part because the GBI just dumped a bunch of generic name records on them despite having submitted my fingerprints.
This is in Fulton County, which obviously could not give a shite about you trying to get a permit on an administrative level (pretty hostile but they can't do much other than make it difficult). Thankfully I happen to practice regularly before the court who handles the permit appeals, so I ended up getting it reversed (after about 3 months of bouncing between agencies) and got a mea culpa letter from a judge apologizing and confirming it was their mistake for any future difficulties/confusion.
But even in an easy permit state like GA, it just goes to show you that they can and will obstruct through intent or incompetence. But for me being a lawyer with a lot of contacts in that Court and knowing how the appeals for denial worked (and having the credibility to threaten to make it a hassle for them) - I would have been at a dead end for a while. At minimum someone would have had to spend a ton of time or hire counsel to get it resolved.

I've been emailing them about once a month, and just yesterday they replied to me that they are currently working on December entries, but have not gotten to mine yet. I submitted it online on December 21st, and mailed my prints to BR the same day. When I submitted online, it said I have to wait to receive an email that will give me the link for my final payment once the permit is approved.
Reading how things are going for some of yall is making me worried that something possibly went wrong with my process or submittal.

Answer phone 2 days later that everything was in order and for me to stop by the office to get picture made.
Calhoun County just uses your DL photo. Although, this is the first time mine has ever had a picture on it. I renew mine for the max five years every time.
Same process though.
Fill out form on sheriff website, wait 24-48 hrs (mine was less than 4 hrs)
Pay on the same website
Came in the mail 2 days later

Application sent of may 15 2020
application returned Sept 9 2020 because I missed a field

double and triple check your application, then check it again
then have someone else check it
then go to BR and do it in person

I finally got my confirmation email that I have been approved for my CCP, and also got the email that my payment was successful. Nothing in the emails tell me when I can expect to received my permit. Will they send an email for when to expect it, or will they just mail it to me without prior notice?
Posted on 4/26/21 at 1:12 pm to KentuckyArcher
I sent my prints in back in December and just got an email last week saying it was approved.

Me too, December 18th to be exact. So a little over 4 months for them to get to it. Did you get anything telling you when to expect your permit in the mail?
