What a way to end a Saturday night. Snake got her twice on the snout. Should be good and swolen in the morning

Poor pup. Our Lab got bit a couple of years ago. The week before Christmas, but it was warm and they were moving around. Vet said it might leave a scar, but it healed up good and you can't even see it now.

Lime green end of tail....probably a young one. I killed a copperhead (8 inches long) this spring and it had the "lime green" tail. Guy said it was an adolescent.

They both look very similar when young. I thought this one's thick black band and white band under eye = cotton mouth.

Yup, green/white tail means it is young.

She looks to be doing well. Swelling isn't as bad as the vet said it would get. Gums aren't pale and she is breathing easily. She didn't follow me when I got up so I let her continue to sleep it off.

They do; cottonmouths turn darker as they age but often have a "copper" look to them as juveniles. Copperheads have more a more clearly defined hour-glass pattern (not as jagged along the dark bands as the cottonmouth).

Hope your pup feels better soon!

Is she eating and drinking since the vet?

Vet said she doesn't need to eat until tonight due food doesn't mix with the meds.
She ate the pain mess with cheese last night and I can't even get her to do that when she isn't hurt so I was happy with that. She has water next to her bed, she's drinking a little at a time

I googled juvenile cottonmouths. didn't realize how similar they were as babies.

Most dogs handle snakebites extremely well. She'll be fine. Usually a day of laying around is all they need.

my buddy's lab got bit by a big copperhead and it looked like she had 10 cans of Copenhagen in her mouth. You could barely see her eyes. She was alright after a couple of days.

ha no, i finished off the snake before she could. In her defense, After the second time she got bit, i pulled her away before she could finish it off.

I'm more concerned with the snakes head still being attached to its body.

Hope you pup feels better
