A few friends and I needed a break from civilization and life in general, so Mt. Nebo State Park was the destination. It's a beautiful place perched on top of a low elevation "mountain" at around 1800-2000 ft overlooking the town of Dardanelle. It's about 1.5 hrs west or so of Petit Jean if anyone is familiar with that. Many beers were consumed and many hours spent around a campfire in the evening because how can you not have a campfire on the top of a mountain every night? It was a light hiking trip as I think we totaled about 12 miles the entire weekend. We hiked the rim trail which is about 4 miles and hit the various spur trails that connect the rim trail to the mountain bench trail. Most of it was moderate, but some of it was strenuous. It's a beautiful place to bring the family and it's very inexpensive.

They sure are curious.

Looks awesome.

Did ya'll have a base camp for the weekend or camped along the trail? Reason I ask is in the pics looks like ya'll are packed very light.

Maybe I'm more solitary, but when I need a break, I go by myself. I don't even like seeing other people. Never understood needing a break from everything and then bringing other people and electronics along.

That being said, I'm always interested in who originally makes these trails

Oh no, the crew I was with were not into hiking all that much. We stayed in a 3 bedroom cabin the entire weekend. There was no roughing it with them as it was mostly their first time hiking ever, which is why I thought this place would be perfect as it's not too strenuous. If anyone had enough of the heat, then they could literally hike up about 200 yards from the rim and hit pavement in less than 5 minutes. Then, at any spot on the top of the mountain, you can get to another spot in less than a mile walk. The ladies decided they had had enough after about 3 miles and went to the pool . Im always down for a roughin it type of trip, but this wasn't one of those.

I was the only with a pack so I carried all the food, water and a decent amount of beer. Also had a first aid kit and that was about it.

I'm up here now. Stayed at Petit Jean for 3 days then Devils Den for 4 days. Headed to Lake Claiborne State Park for a couple days before heading home.

Very nice. Just got back from Western NC, failed to take but a few pics, these make me wish I would have taken more.

Breaking the young kids into hiking slowly and Arkansas is out next trip.

Love the boxer, miss mine big time.

Nice trip! I've done the trails there at Nebo and the views are great. Mt. Magazine isn't fair from there and can be another option if you feel like going back to that area. It's the highest point in Arkansas. If you go look for my name in the book at the high point.
