I ride a Trek X-Caliber... Got it for roughly $750 on sale. Love the way it rides, and it has decent components.

It's considered to be the entry-level bike for racing in the trek line.

I'll practically give you a Trek 820. Bought a Specialized Hardrock and can't get rid of the Trek fast enough

Looks like this:

Don't buy a Fuji unless it is the higher end, but at that point the price is comparable to the other serious players. And the other big names will hold value better.

My cyclo cross bike I'm trying to sell is a FujI that I got from performance bike. They have great deals on components and accessories, but don't have the greatest bikes (I bought this as my first real bike). I can also tell you that avid bb5 disc brakes aren't very good either. I rather my rim brakes. Just in case you feel like you need disc, I'd at least go higher than the bb5 before counting out rim.

This fall, after it cools down, bring the new bike to Ruston and ride The Lincoln Parish Park Bike Trails

Gary Fisher Ziggurat. I bought mine new in 1998 (Retail was $1400, I got it for $750 bc I worked at a bike store) and it is still going strong. I have only had to do minor maintenance.

I bought a 2yr old niner last year. Originally a 4-5k bike. Got it for $1,500 on eBay. I highly recommend full suspension.

I got a Specialized Rockhopper some years back. I have beat that thing to hell but it is still a beast. Last time o rode it I broke my collarbone and got a black eye. The bike was nearly unfazed with only a small dent in the wheel well.
