Motor Oil Question: Synthetic vs Conventional in Tundra ETA: Had the Oil Changed

I bought a used 2012 Tundra, and it is time for an oil change. I called the dealerahip where I bought it, and they said Castrol conventional motor oil was used in the previous oil change. The tag on the windshield says they used 5w20.
Is there conventional 5w20 and synthetic?
If they had conventional in it, can I switch to synthetic without messing up the engine?
If they used synthetic, could I switch to conventional without messing the engine up?
Owners manuel says to use 0w20 or 5w20, but doesnt specify conventional or synthetic. I've searched online trying to find this information, but I haven't been able to find a clear explanation.
ETA: Got the oil changed in my truck. They used Mobile 1 0w20. I thought this was synthetic, and that most people go 10k miles between oil changes with synthetic. On the wildshield sticker, they put that I need to have it changed at 5k. Do they recommend 5k in hopes that you give them more business, or should I actually have it changed in 5k miles, rather than 10k?

0w20 is only a full synthetic.
5w20 can be synthetic or conventional.
Either sythetic or conventional can be used without worrying about damage, but I wouldn't switch back and forth every 3 months.

Go synthetic.
Conventional to synthetic is okay, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to switch back to conventional once you use synthetic because science.

Read the owners manual and just use whatever it says to use.

I run 5w 20 synthetic in my F150, actually about to change the oil now. Was always told you can switch from conventional TO synthetic, but you cant go from synthetic to conventional. Why? i have no clue.

Thanks guys. I will probably go synthetic, I guess. Simply because I can go longer without an oil change. Yall go 10k with synthetic, right?
ETA: Owners manual says to use 0w20. If that isn't available, 5w20 is okay, but go back to 0w20 on the next oil change.

It had to do with the seals and gaskets starting to leak due to the synthetic making them swell, but have since had additives put in conventional to reduce the leaks if transitioning.
Either choice you make, no mechanical issues should occur, but conventional may cause some unwanted spots in your driveway though.

The owners manual will tell you the manufacturer's specfication. Not all oils in those weights will meet that spec. Most brand-name synthetic oils will meet or exceed most manufacturers specs though. I use sythetic oils in my vehicles to lengthen OCIs and better detergency to keep internals cleaner. My little beater Ranger has almost 200k and their is almost no varnish when looking into the valve cover. I use Mobil 1 or Pennzoil synthetics.

I used Mobil One Synthetics on all my cars. I get them from Walmart....alot cheaper than autozone and such.

Ford/Motorcraft Synthetic at Walmart is all I use. It's almost as cheap as conventional oil.

Is a premium oil that's competes well against all the big names. Its made by conoco.
And for a great price
Eta: I use the synthetic blend and change every 5k

Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 per manuals in my Accord (220K) and 4Runner (190K) with 10K intervals. Both are still going strong. suggest you start on a 10K interval for easy memory (eg: 40K, 50K, etc.)

Synthetic will definitely increase your intervals.
I use Royal Purple and change it when my Yukon's computer tells me. This usually happens around 10k-12k miles. And luckily my truck doesn't burn very much oil so I don't really need to add any before my change. I'll occasionally go 1/4 quart over the fill just to make sure.

This came in my truck from the factory and is all it's ever seen. High quality and a good price, which helps when it's 8 quarts a pop.
With motorcraft filter and some injector cleaner I'm usually looking at around $40.

This. From Walmarks.
Change anywhere from 6-9k miles.

I run full synthetic in everything, but that is probably overkill.
Stick with conventional and change it when the monitor says to unless you tow or take a lot of short trips.

Mobil 1 is $10 off for 6 quarts at Costco right now. Can get it for $25.

That is a dang good deal right there.
