Mojo's banned on 2 WMA's in Arky

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for Mojo's. Arkansas hunters have lobbied tirelessly to get these things banned on public waters, and the commission finally responded. It had gotten pretty ridiculous with some of the setups people put out.
I wish we could go back to the way it used to be. Just decoys and a jerk string would be all you need to kill ducks. I also think this would clear out this new breed of duck hunter that has no idea how to kill a duck without a hole full of contraptions. I think this will allow ducks to finish better, and may even help with all the skybusting that these places are known for.
LITTLE ROCK – In an effort to improve waterfowl hunting on public areas, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today banned the use of simulated wing-movement decoys on two of the state’s wildlife management areas during waterfowl season. The two WMAs are Bayou Meto and Dave Donaldson Black River. The ban becomes effective immediately.
The Commission previously banned statewide use of the decoys beginning with the 2005-06 waterfowl season, but removed the ban after three years. The decoys are defined as “any electric, mechanically-operated, wind-powered, or manually-powered apparatus or device that simulates wing movement, including any device that spins one or more fixed- or stationary-winged decoys around a central axis.”
The new regulation says it will be unlawful “to possess, or take or attempt to take waterfowl with the use of, any simulated wing movement decoy on Bayou Meto WMA and Dave Donaldson Black River WMA from the first day of the first segment of regular duck season through the last day of the last segment of regular duck season.” Violation of the new regulation could result in a fine of up to $1,000 and jail of up to 30 days.
The decoys will be allowed on all other WMAs and on private land during waterfowl season.

I don't really think it matters unless they get banned in Canada and the Dakotas. I personally don't use them and they really aren't that effective any more over water after the first week of the season. Put them over dry fields though and it is a totally different story. Go watch some videos of the massive flocks of mallards that are shot at over mojo on dry fields up north. I have to think that is doing a whole lot of educating or killing the juvenile birds quickly.

I agree. I'm guilty as the next guy though. I've tried every gadget that has come out, but I still believe if these things were banned completely, we would kill more ducks. Ducks just don't finish like they used too. It is so evident in the timber especially.
Every duck tv show I see now is running at least 2 spinners, and every other commercial is advertising them. I also see that most of the shooting that they do is pass shooting. It's sad to see people with their magic chokes that reach out to 60+ yards is the new norm in duck hunting.

As long as I have my pull string I'm good.
Like poster said above, for us a mojo is useless after the opening weekend of both splits.

This might make bayou meto actually hunt able now. I pretty much don't use any after teal season anyway. I think people just get to comfortable using them and continue to put them out. I will take a jerk string and quiver butts any day of the week.

Pretty sure they banned them a few years back and succumbed to the masses and legalized them again.

Only use them for teal season

Yep. The poor-mouthing at the launch was sincere.

I'm glad to see Arky making the move. I do love the spinners during teal season however. At any rate, I say do away with them completly. Without those spinners I can have more room on the boat or wheeler. Also, don't have to worry about setting them up in the morning and all the minor bs that goes along with them. Sorry Mojo

All of the topwaters will have to take the new Mojo Thrasher off of their Christmas list this year.

I am glad this trend is starting - mojos were great when they first cam out - but they have screwed it up for most of us - and I am guilty as hell. Some morning we may run 4 mojos at a time.
The day they are gone the day duck hunting for everyone is improved.

I'd be fine with banning them.
To me, I think it should fall under the electronic device clauses. If you had to, make a window during/at the end of the season when they are legal so everyone isn't stuck with stuff they can't use.

Completely irrelevant. Just saw a flock of Canadian geese in Houma. I'm at a half chub.

If they outlaw them I'll quit using them. However hunting LARGE open water areas in Venice they make a HUGE difference in attracting ducks to come look. I use 1 for pretty much every hunt. I don't mind jerk strings but they are a PIA hunting run and gun public land hunting, and are even more PIA with a dog.

I really couldn't even imagine how mad people would be if they banned them statewide here. What would you even do with them. Sell them online to some other states?

Yep and yep. I say outlaw anything electrical to include mallard machines and those little squirt butt decoys too.
